"The leak was first reported on 11 November between the Washington towns of Everett and Snohomish. The state department of ecology determined the leak consisted of a combination of gasoline, jet fuel and diesel. BP shut off two pipelines that ran side by side in the Olympic pipeline system to determine the source of the leak, either a 16in or a 20in pipeline.

On 16 November, the company restarted the 16in pipeline, but shut if off again after observing “an increase in product observed in a collection point”, it said in a statement."

Fuel from the pipeline, operated by BP, was first spotted in a ditch near an Everett, Washington, blueberry farm

"The UK government has been accused of caving-in to pressure from the British Virgin Islands by allowing it to limit access to a register of company share ownership to only those deemed to have a legitimate interest.

The restriction, to be discussed at talks starting on Tuesday between Foreign Office ministers and leaders of the British overseas territories (BOTs) in London, is in defiance of legislation passed by the UK government as long ago as 2008 that would make the register available to all.

Public registers of beneficial share ownership have long been seen as the best means to expose corruption and tax evasion in overseas territories.

The backsliding by the BOTs has led an all-party group of MPs to urge ministers to recognise that the talks this week represent “the last chance” to clamp down on embarrassing corruption in the UK’s own back yard before the Foreign Office holds a high-profile international anti-corruption conference next year."

"Many of the most influential personalities in the “Make America great again” (Maga) movement on X are based outside of the US, including Russia, Nigeria and India, a new transparency feature on the social media site has revealed.

The new tool, called “about this account,” became available on Friday to users of the Elon Musk-owned platform. It allows anyone to see where an account is located, when it joined the platform, how often its username has been changed, and how the X app was downloaded.

As soon as the update was rolled out, users found numerous Maga and rightwing influencers who presented themselves as patriotic Americans were operating from other countries."

"Kanu sought to revive the short-lived state of Biafra, which seceded from Nigeria in 1967, sparking a civil war during which up to 3 million people died. After its troops surrendered in 1970, Biafra, which comprised the old Eastern Region – most of which is today’s south-eastern Nigeria – was reintegrated into the country.

Several secessionist movements have sprung up to protest against what they see as political and economic marginalisation of the region, rallying members of the diaspora to donate to the agitation for independence, including training militia in the region’s forests."

"At least 13 people have been killed in an Israeli strike near a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, the country's health ministry says. The Israeli military said it had targeted members of the Palestinian armed group Hamas "operating in a training compound... in the Ein el-Hilweh area".

It said the location was used by Hamas to plan and carry out attacks against Israel, which Hamas rejected as "fabrication and lies". Israel has carried out regular air strikes on people and places in Lebanon since a deal to end the conflict with the Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah. Most strikes have targeted Hezbollah but Israel has also attacked Hamas in the country."
