Call for Submissions
Stag Hill Journal is hosting a Halloween event in Aberdeen this year, and we’ve decided to put out a themed issue for the occasion. The working theme for this issue is “scary stories”, but is not limited to ghost stories or horror (in fact, we prefer less gore and more creative frights), and would love to see some historical works.
We are particularly interested in stories and art about witches, witchcraft, and witch trials (and broad interpretations thereof).
We are opening submissions for: short stories/flash fiction, essays/creative nonfiction, poetry, photos, and art, as well as short films. Please send photos and scanned art as PDFs for now, and short films as links to posted work or MP4 files. We may be hosting a small film festival as part of our event, so we are especially excited for filmmakers to submit.
Please send submissions to: [email protected]. Any questions can be posted here, or sent to the same email address.
The deadline is: 31 August 2026. Submissions will be evaluated for inclusion in the issue and film festival as they come in.
