It was a very 'proud' afternoon yesterday. I was at the book launch of beautiful Mwende, a book for younger readers by first-time children's author, Hannah Pereira.
The book deals with issues of bullying, feeling lonely and unloved. Such a heart-warming ending to the story. And, of course, the watercolour artwork is exquisite! All painted by the author, who is also an amazing artist.
I am the happy editor, book compilator and independent publisher at Ende Books. My eldest, Ian Kidd, was responsible for the graphics work, a job well done.
Hannah had been a teacher in Kenya some years ago, and that's where the idea of this book started.
Hannah had orchestrated a fabulous book launch, with lots of African-themed children's activities, with paper plates, chocolates and cupcakes carrying Mwende's happy smiling face, a story tent where Hannah read her book to a beautiful audience of diverse cultures, and some 'gorillas' entertaining the children. What a visually fantastic event, held inside the community-friendly surroundings of stunning St Michael's Church in Aldershot.
