After lots of consultation regarding the original concepts, it's great to see that revised plans are now out which ensures the town's historic cobbles remain largely untouched and parking spaces aren't lost unless absolutely necessary. What do you think of the revised plans?
UPDATE ON WESTGATE AND CHALONER STREET IMPROVEMENTS
Following feedback from the community on the proposals for Westgate and Chaloner Street, amended designs have been drawn up.
The changes from the original designs include the removal of the proposed (middle) pedestrian crossing outside Morrisons, the removal of the formal lines to define parking bays and to limit the replacement and removal of any historic cobbles unless absolutely necessary (such as widening the pavement or where disabled bays are located).
The proposals will deliver a range of enhancements within the town centre that will help to revitalise the area. This significant investment from Government is a unique and amazing opportunity to improve residentsβ and visitorsβ experience, drive economic growth, and promote Guisborough as an historic market town, ensuring the future sustainability of the High Street.
Subject to planning permission and conditions, works will start in early 2025 following lots of business engagement. A contractor has not yet been appointed but once this has happened, the Council will work closely with them and local businesses to minimise disruption as best we can. We will instruct that the works will be undertaken in phases to try to mitigate the impact on businesses, residents and visitors.
