I’m thrilled to share that our short documentary Karate Dreams has been officially selected for the FICTS World Championship Film Festival in Milan next month.

This prestigious event represents the global pinnacle of cinema, television, culture, and sports imagery. It is the grand finale of 23 festivals across 5 continents that make up the “World FICTS Challenge” International Circuit, and forms part of the Milano Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympics.

We’re especially proud as this marks our second film to be selected for this festival, following last year’s success with Rugby Town.

It’s an incredible honour to see Karate Dreams included on such a world stage, celebrating stories where sport and culture unite.

It’s amazing to see the short film gaining international recognition so quickly.

Yesterday, — home to Rainbow Trout Films and Danny Thompson Commercial Photography — welcomed our local MP, Kate Dearden MP, to Dean Clough.

Kate joined us for a tour, met our team, and talked all things film, photography, and the role creative industries play in showcasing local businesses. We shared stories (including drone battles with buzzards and pigeons), discussed the rise of social media video, and explored ideas for celebrating Calderdale’s manufacturing heritage, boosting local skills, and highlighting amazing volunteer work.

We also screened the opening of our award-winning Rugby Town documentary film, before wrapping up with a mini photo-shoot.

It’s inspiring to have an MP so engaged with local creativity — thank you for visiting, Kate!
