The Last Hike is nearly there. Colour grading is well underway and the music and sound design are in progress. We are now raising the last of the funds for festival submissions and film classification.

We have a company sponsorship pack for businesses who would like to back the film. Packages start at £300 + VAT and include an end credit that travels with the film through its full festival run, logo placement on the poster and festival materials, premiere tickets, press recognition and a filmed thank you from the directors.

If that could be you, or someone you know, email [email protected] and we will send it over.

🏆 News from Los Angeles!

Huge congratulations to our director James Mellor, who has won Best Director (Short Documentary) at the Los Angeles Short Film Awards for Rugby Town!

Not bad for a story that started with a simple advert in a local paper back in 1873. 🏉

From club legends and lifelong fans to recreations filmed across Calderdale, this film has always belonged to Halifax. A few weeks ago we screened it at the Houses of Parliament. Now it has been recognised on the other side of the Atlantic.

Local stories told well really do travel.

A huge thank you to Linda Kitson, Producer at the Halifax Panthers Supporters Trust, who first came to us with this amazing project, to everyone who shared their memories on camera, and to the brilliant team behind the film. 🎬

With Doctor Who currently out to tender, someone asked me the question… if you could work on a tv series that had an impact on you and bring it back to the tv screens, what would that be?

That got me thinking… 🧐 Doctor Who is an obvious one, as I’ve been a fan of the series since about 3 years old.

But then, here are two more that I think are ready for a reboot if done correctly.

Firstly the 1960’s British classic, The Avengers. John Steed and Mrs Peel, battling evil schemes, spy’s and the bizarre with perfect British wit. These episodes still carry some weight as the writing and imagination were superb. Happy memories of watching re-runs with my dad back in the 1990’s.

Next is the 1980’s adaptation of the Tripods by John Christopher, adapted by Richard Bates, which sadly the bbc only made 2 series and we were left with the story unfinished in visual form. I had to finish the trilogy reading the books.

All 3 are ready for a refresh or reboot. I’d love to be part of that journey with at least one of these… So any exec producers out there who would like to team up. I’m open for a chat…

We’ve just completed our second interview for the upcoming ‘Tales from the Set’ podcast series.

Thank you to my guests Paul Dunphy and Larry Budd who have added a touch of comedy flair to proceedings today.

Discussed everything from Radio, comedy, some politics and what’s the best physical media format from the past… we’re all fans of mini discs 😂.

Looking forward to sharing more as the series comes together.

It was one of the most fun jobs of my career and the first drama series I ever worked on. I started as a runner and the following year I was promoted to 3rd Assistant Director, with some 2nd AD work when production moved back to London for the live studio audience laughter tracks.

Best of all, I got to explore more of Yorkshire and some incredible locations. Driving over to Marsden and Holmfirth became my daily commute.

One story that has stayed with me: driving Peter Sallis and Frank Thornton to set and hearing about their time in the RAF, and how they worked out where they were by navigating the stars. It still amazes me that they lived through those times.

Later this year we’ll be launching the Tales from the Set podcast series. More on that soon…

Lovely to see the Halifax Courier covering Rugby Town's screening at the Houses of Parliament.

There's a nice bit of symmetry here. The story of Halifax RLFC began in 1873 with an advert in the local paper. 150 years later, the local paper is reporting on that same story being shown in Westminster.

Thank you to Tom Scargill and the Courier for telling it so well, and to Kate Dearden MP for Halifax once again for making the screening happen.
