🏏 Welcome to Starter Coach.
I built this for a pretty simple reason.
My 7-year-old loves cricket and wants to get better. I want to help him, but I'm his Dad, not a cricket coach.
Until recently, I didn't know what a front leg brace was, never mind why it mattered.
Hip-shoulder separation, front-foot alignment, head position at release, weight transfer, follow-through mechanics... these are all things a cricket coach might immediately recognise.
Most parents won't.
I certainly didn't.
And even if somebody tells you that your child needs to work on their front leg brace or their hip alignment, there's another problem.
What am I actually looking for?
That's where Starter Coach comes in.
I can upload a video of him batting or bowling and it breaks the movement down. Feet, legs, hips, shoulders, head position, balance and the different stages of the action.
But more importantly, it makes sense of it.
It takes terminology and technical details that I wouldn't necessarily understand and helps me see what they actually mean in my child's movement.
So instead of me trying to explain "front leg bracing" to a 7-year-old, I can take my phone, record him normally and show him:
"Look where your foot is pointing here."
Now he can see it.
I can see it.
We can work on that one thing together.
Then we record it again and we can actually see whether it's improving.
That's what Starter Coach is really about.
It isn't about turning parents into cricket coaches. I'm certainly not one.
It's about taking something that can be quite technical and making it understandable and useful for an ordinary parent and, most importantly, for the young player themselves.
You don't need to understand all the terminology.
You don't need to know what you're supposed to be looking for.
Starter Coach helps you find it, understand it and then work on it.
Not every child wants to analyse their cricket. Plenty just want to play and have fun, and that's exactly how it should be.
But for the ones who really do want to get better, and for parents who want to help them without spending a fortune on constant one-to-one coaching, I think this can be a huge help.
And it's not just for children. If you're playing cricket yourself and simply want to understand and improve your own game, it can do exactly the same for you.

See it. Understand it. Work on it. See the improvement.
