Moors Valley Country Park: Growing Up With Our Favourite Forest
📍 Location: Moors Valley Country Park & Forest, Horton Road, Ashley Heath, near Ringwood, BH24 2ET – right on the edge of the New Forest
We’ve visited Moors Valley twice now – first when my little girl was just 18 months old, and again this summer, now she’s four. Both times have been glorious sunny days, and it’s been so lovely watching this place feel brand new each time we come.
Entry to the park itself is completely free, you just pay for parking. There are so many extra things you can enjoy too – the miniature steam train has a small charge, Go Ape runs brilliant different courses here, and you do have to pay for those, plus you can also hire bikes, mini golf, land rovers and Segways if you want more adventure. This time we tried the treetop nets – absolute pure joy!
There’s also the wonderful Room on the Broom walking trail to follow, which is such fun for little book lovers.
There’s a huge open field where lots of people set up for the day with picnic blankets, or grab one of the tables nearby. Right next to it are wooden play areas designed for different age groups, so there’s something safe and fun for every stage. We took a packed lunch with us and easily found one of the many benches scattered around the park to sit and enjoy it.
Back when she was tiny, it was all about pointing at trees, tottering past the sculptures and soaking up the sunshine. This time? It was a proper adventure! We hunted high and low for the Gruffalo, ran wild along the Play Trail, rode the train, and bounced high up in the trees.
There’s also a restaurant on site for food and drink, plus a lovely shop full of souvenirs, and ice cream available on the go.
What I love most is how it grows with them – perfect for wobbly toddlers just discovering the world, and wonderful for bold, curious four-year-olds ready to try new things. We’ve left with sun-kissed cheeks and huge smiles both times.
