We often discuss the use of optical components in the medical field, but what about their application in mental health treatments? 🧠
Unbeknownst to some, optics play a big role here, too. Take light-based therapies, for example. SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) light boxes – which use LEDs, fluorescent tubes and optical filters – block out harmful UV rays while delivering the right intensity of light to help regulate the body’s melatonin and serotonin levels.
Meanwhile, Virtual Reality (VR) therapy – which also relies heavily on precision optical systems – is being used to help manage conditions like anxiety, depression and PTSD, often as part of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
So, while optics might seem far removed from mental health, they’re actually quietly helping to light the way toward better wellbeing. 💡
