I often recommend that clients work with me on LinkedIn, even when LinkedIn is not the first platform they think of.
For a lot of small businesses, Instagram or Facebook can feel more obvious.
And I understand why. You can see the likes, comments, views and enquiries.
LinkedIn can sometimes feel a little quieter. But there is another benefit that we do not always see straight away.
Search visibility.
LinkedIn content is not only being seen by people on LinkedIn. It is also being picked up by Google and, increasingly, by AI search platforms.
Recent Semrush research found that LinkedIn was the second most-cited domain across ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, appearing in around 11% of AI responses on average.
Separate research also found LinkedIn posts ranking for around 6 million keywords on Google, with about 300,000 appearing in the top 10 results.
That is quite significant.
Especially for a small business trying to build authority around what they do.
So when I recommend LinkedIn to a client, I am not only thinking:
“Let’s post more on social media.”
I am also thinking about all the visibility that may be happening in the background.
Someone searches Google. Someone asks ChatGPT for a recommendation.
Someone researches a service before getting in touch. And your LinkedIn presence may be helping them find you, understand what you do and trust your expertise.
That is why I increasingly see LinkedIn as part of both Social Media and AI Search Optimisation. A useful, well-positioned LinkedIn presence can work much harder for your business than it might first appear.
Sometimes the most valuable visibility is the visibility that isn’t immediately visible.
