Mornings and evenings in tropical rainforests create some of the most captivating scenes imaginable. Immense, ancient forests teem with life that erupts in a cacophony at sunrise, ever shrouded in misty clouds that dissipate with the heat of the day, revealing the mysterious, secret lives of the forests' inhabitants.

A critically engangered black-and-white ruffed lemur treats itself to the ripe fruit of a palm. Found exclusively in primary forest, there are only a few populations remaining on Madagascar.
Usually, backlit high up in the canopy, curled up in a ball of fluff to protect themselves from the rain, most sightings are just silhouettes. But Peter encountered this special lemur staking out a fruiting palm, protecting this prime food source from other lemurs and birds.
"A Madagascar tree boa rested on a branch nearby. Through a gap in the canopy a ray of light illuminated this individual and the vibrant backdrop of red palm fruit, as these yellow eyes stared back at me. One of my favorite lemur encounters of all time."

"I photographed this O'Shaughnessy's Chameleon (Calumma oshaughnessyi) during a night excursion in the Ranomofana National Park, where it was sleeping peacefully. I was amazed by its colors; it made me think about a wonderful painting with so many greens and blues. Ranomofana National Park is the last existing forest in central Madagascar with many rare species."

The panther chameleon (Furcifer pardalis) has a unique colour morph endemic to the area around Ambanja/Madagascar. The male displays its full colouration during a fight. The blue morph, seen here, is now very rare in the wild due to intense collecting for the pet trade. Give a follow for more images.

A magical sunset ignites the sky: the opening act to a night of nocturnal hijinks and dramas throughout the canopies of the forest.

An unsuspecting flying frog sits, silhouetted, on a leaf preparing to launch itself deep into the jungles of Borneo.

Their name is a little bit deceptive. Instead of flying, they expand the membrane between their toes and glide incredible distances through the canopy. This handy ability is perfect for foraging amongst the towering trees and making daring escapes from predators.

As night falls, and the sky is peppered with stars, these tropical rainforests come alive with sounds - a vibrant cacophony of chirps, croaks, and songs echo throughout the canopies.
