Your options at the end of Year 11…

Essentially, this means two options: stay in full-time education, or mix working and learning through something like an apprenticeship. Here is our round-up of how those two options break down - https://www.makethefutureyours.uk/your-choices-at-the-end-of-year-11

So the day arrives - but what actually happens?
Try your best to not worry too much about results day but that is easier said than done. Maker sure to get plenty of sleep the night before.
Confirm what time your school will open on the day itself. Your school should have told you this before you broke up for the summer, but you can always check this on their official website, or even social media channels.
Finally, have a think about whether you'd prefer to collect and open your results with your parent, in a group of friends for moral support, or perhaps just on your own.
You can either open your results alone, with your family or with your friends – it’s completely up to you!
A reflection on A Level results day this week… Well done to the classes of 2022.

Clearing questions
Clearing is how universities fill empty spots on their courses. Most of the time, this is through finding students who have decided to go to uni after the application deadline, or students who've not got the results they needed to get into their first choice course and are looking for alternative courses or universities.
The first thing to do is ask for advice from someone at school, college, the careers office, or have a look on http://www.ucas.com
Next you’ll be able to see what courses are available on UCAS – this is the most up to date list you’ll find.
Before you add a Clearing choice in your application, you need to call the uni and give them your Clearing number (you can find this in your application), and Personal ID, so they can look it up
Add your Clearing choice in your application - only add a Clearing choice once you have permission from the university or college.
- Click 'Add Clearing choice', and fill in the course details by the date the university/college gave you on the phone.
- This counts as you definitely accepting the offer, so if they confirm, it'll show as an acceptance on your 'Choices' page in your application.
- You can only add one choice at a time, but if the university/college doesn't confirm your place, you'll be able to add another.
- If the university/college confirms your place, find your student accommodation and then make sure you get everything ready to start your studies.
What happens on results day?
Pupils will get A-level, AS-level and some BTec National results from 08:00 BST on Thursday, 18 August in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. For the first time, T-level results will also be released on the same day.
Some schools and colleges ask students to collect results in person, while others publish details online, so check the arrangements.
If you've applied for a university course, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (Ucas) will start updating its systems at 09:00 BST on 9 August and 08:15 on 18 August. Updates can take several hours.
The A-level grade boundaries - the number of marks needed for each grade - are more lenient this year. Students may need fewer marks to reach a particular grade, or if they are very close to the boundary for a higher grade, they may be looked at more favourably than in previous years.

Sales of EVs (electric vehicles) in the UK have rocketed in recent years, with hybrid or battery-based cars now making up nearly 30% of all new vehicle registrations. The increase in fuel prices and the ban from 2030 of new traditionally fuelled (petrol or diesel) cars mean that percentage is only going to increase. But how is this change affecting the motor industry? And what skills do car mechanics need now to keep on top of this new technology?

It’s probably not quite enough to say that a Quantity Surveyor ‘surveys quantities’. Quantities of what? And how would they even do that? There were about 60,000 Quantity Surveyors working in the UK in 2020, a number which is growing steadily as the construction industry grows.
We take a look at what it actually means to be a Quantity Surveyor (QS) and how you might become one, http://www.makethefutureyours.com/what-does-a-quantity-surveyor-do
Have you heard of T-Levels? Fareham College will be offering them from September 2022!
T Levels are a new qualification that have been introduced in England for students aged 16+. T Level (or Technical Level) courses are an alternative to A Levels, Apprenticeships, and other qualifications for students. The intention is that a T Level will help students find skilled employment, higher technical studies at university or higher Apprenticeships.
