Kat on the BBC – latest update -- Last night we watched one of our young people interview by the One Show about the challenges they face, and how the team at Music Fusion helped them find a future.

Kat continues to astonish us with their honesty, integrity and energy. We are all so proud of how hard Kat has worked for this.

It’s kind of amazing to catch up on Kat’s journey as one of this year’s Challenge Squad. Kat is both raising money for Children In Need, and awareness for Music Fusion. In this appearance on the ONE SHOW, Kat meets up with Sam Ryder and practiced for the big show, presented the project to a packed Globe Theatre and literally dropped in at their local skate park.

Well done Kat, we are all super proud of your big heart, hard work and compassion for people who get overlooked and forgotten.

Happy Halloween!
Here’s what we’ve been up to during October:

Mavericks Lines, our latest project funded by the OPCC has launched this month. We’re running 3 x 6 month segments this time, to switch it up and keep things moving! We’re working with lots of Music Leaders and young artists to deliver a multi-genre release every 6 months! Expect some cool filmed performances along the way, culminating with a massive end of project celebration in 18 months’ time.

As you might have seen, Children In Need have chosen one of our young people, Kat, to feature on their “Challenge Squad 2025.” Kat will be performing with Sam Ryder on national TV in November! We’re delighted for Kat to be able to share their story as well as their excellent music. Tune in Tuesday 4th November for the latest update on Kat’s journey!

The time is rapidly approaching for one of our favourite nights of the year, The Rockschool Showcase. Attendees have been working hard writing originals and working up some very cool covers to perform. Tickets are now live on The Spring website! Monday 8th December, 7pm, get it in your diaries now! 😊

Finally, we’re over the moon to be funded by Youth Music for the next 3 years. This supports our much needed front line provision, but also helps with some awesome plans we'll be sharing with you soon. We’re looking forward to working with our partners at The Wedgewood Rooms, The Spring Arts Centre and Portsmouth Guildhall on this, a super exciting few years ahead!

Music Fusion are delighted to announce that Youth Music have committed to funding our Music Lab programme for the next three years. This not only pays for much needed front line provision, but it’s also a chance to try new things, work with new partners and help develop even more opportunities for our young people.

There is huge credit due to our Team at Music Fusion whose diligence, hard work and big hearts have proven that what we do… works really well. Thank you to Youth Music for believing in us. Looking forward, I feel these are exciting times.

Music Fusion are excited to announce that one of our young people has joined the Children In Need ‘Challenge Squad 2025’. Kat has been attending Music Fusion for a little while and has bravely chosen to take on a mystery challenge to help raise money for Children In Need and awareness for Music Fusion. We are all so incredibly proud of Kat, and everything they have achieved. Plus - Massive props go out to Neil for helping Kat find their voice. What a team!!

£25 a month (over 12 months) pays for one of the following:
14 hours studio time to record, mix, master and release an EP via all major streaming platforms /or/ Plan, record and release a professional music video /or/ Funds a performance opportunity / event / live stream /or/
Pays for music software for a young person /or/

£50 per month (over 12 months) Pays for one young person to access everything we have to offer for one year.

September Update:

Back to it this month, with lots more 1-2-1 sessions after the Summer Holidays! The team have delivered sessions funded by Harbour, Glenwood and Park Community Schools, with all our usual 1-2-1 work continuing. We’ve had some interesting collaborations, with young people asking to share sessions. There’s also been a producer sending her music to Beats and Bars, requesting rappers to write and record! Looking forward to seeing more of this over the next few months! 😊

Rockschool has returned with a bang, with attendance in double figures as participants start to prep for the Rockschool Showcase on the 8th December. Definitely a date for your diaries, expect some cool spins on covers, a vast spread of original material and some stone cold classics. Don’t worry, we will be reminding everyone nearer the time too!

Our Mavericks Lines Project Launches in October, funded by the OPCC. This time we’re doing things a little differently, with more bespoke 1-2-1 sessions, tailored group recording, a multi-genre approach and lots of Music Leaders getting involved to support! There are some more surprises along the way, we’re excited to get going!

Our BeeWell funded work with Havant and East Hants MIND is drawing to a close, it’s been an absolute pleasure to work with so many of the talented young artists on their books. On an organisational level, we’ve refined processes and are keen to work with them again. Thanks to Lucy, Annie and the team! 😊

A big thank you and good luck to Shaun who is retiring as Head of Hampshire Music Service. You’ve been an incredible inspiration over the years and thanks from all at Mufu HQ for your passion, dedication and caring work ethic. All the best Shaun! 😊

Finally Matt, Kizz, Leon and the team have been out promoting our weekly Tuesday sessions at The BASE, as we still have room for more attendees! If you know someone who writes, sings, raps, plays an instrument or produces, this could be what they’ve been waiting for. Here’s a video explaining a bit more, DM us for any extra information.

Historically, August is a quiet month for Music Fusion. This year was no different, but despite all the festivals, staff and Music Leader holidays, plus the schools breaking up, the team has still been busy!

We’ve been working on funding applications, planning out the next few months and getting ready to launch our latest version of Mavericks! This will begin in October, expect a few changes to the usual set up, with a few surprises!

We’ve still been delivering weekly sessions with our friends at Portsmouth Guildhall in The BASE, plus Rockschool and Beats and Bars will be starting back up this month.

Referrals are coming in thick and fast, it’s exciting to see our calender filling back up with more 1-2-1 sessions, initial meetings and school provision. We’re looking forward to a very busy few months! 😊

Music Fusion have some really fabulous friends, supporters and partners. Hence, it was an delight when Jacqui from Tesco got in touch to say, ‘Pop into the store, I have a surprise for you.’ Here is Jacqui with a trolley full of much needed folders, books, pens and of course… bottled water for the studio. The surprise was an extra pile of headphones and speakers to be donated directly to our young people. I believe this proves the idiom… every little helps.
