September Update:

Back to it this month, with lots more 1-2-1 sessions after the Summer Holidays! The team have delivered sessions funded by Harbour, Glenwood and Park Community Schools, with all our usual 1-2-1 work continuing. We’ve had some interesting collaborations, with young people asking to share sessions. There’s also been a producer sending her music to Beats and Bars, requesting rappers to write and record! Looking forward to seeing more of this over the next few months! 😊

Rockschool has returned with a bang, with attendance in double figures as participants start to prep for the Rockschool Showcase on the 8th December. Definitely a date for your diaries, expect some cool spins on covers, a vast spread of original material and some stone cold classics. Don’t worry, we will be reminding everyone nearer the time too!

Our Mavericks Lines Project Launches in October, funded by the OPCC. This time we’re doing things a little differently, with more bespoke 1-2-1 sessions, tailored group recording, a multi-genre approach and lots of Music Leaders getting involved to support! There are some more surprises along the way, we’re excited to get going!

Our BeeWell funded work with Havant and East Hants MIND is drawing to a close, it’s been an absolute pleasure to work with so many of the talented young artists on their books. On an organisational level, we’ve refined processes and are keen to work with them again. Thanks to Lucy, Annie and the team! 😊

A big thank you and good luck to Shaun who is retiring as Head of Hampshire Music Service. You’ve been an incredible inspiration over the years and thanks from all at Mufu HQ for your passion, dedication and caring work ethic. All the best Shaun! 😊

Finally Matt, Kizz, Leon and the team have been out promoting our weekly Tuesday sessions at The BASE, as we still have room for more attendees! If you know someone who writes, sings, raps, plays an instrument or produces, this could be what they’ve been waiting for. Here’s a video explaining a bit more, DM us for any extra information.

Historically, August is a quiet month for Music Fusion. This year was no different, but despite all the festivals, staff and Music Leader holidays, plus the schools breaking up, the team has still been busy!

We’ve been working on funding applications, planning out the next few months and getting ready to launch our latest version of Mavericks! This will begin in October, expect a few changes to the usual set up, with a few surprises!

We’ve still been delivering weekly sessions with our friends at Portsmouth Guildhall in The BASE, plus Rockschool and Beats and Bars will be starting back up this month.

Referrals are coming in thick and fast, it’s exciting to see our calender filling back up with more 1-2-1 sessions, initial meetings and school provision. We’re looking forward to a very busy few months! 😊

Thank you to all who continue to support Music Fusion, through sharing posts, advocating, monthly donations and keeping us in mind for opportunities as they arise!

Here’s Mya performing at our last Rumble Sale, hosted at the fantastic Wedgewood Rooms.

The NEWS: Music Fusion are delighted to announce that the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire & Isle of Wight has committed to funding the next 18 months of our award winning Mavericks Programme.

The ISSUE: Havant and Portsmouth contain wards that are the most deprived areas in the country. The result is more young people becoming victims of and turning to serious crime and violence. Through young peoples music and culture we see an influx of negative role models for young people.

‘Mavericks LINES’ is meant to be a provocative title, designed to inspire conversation. What does this mean to our young people? Lines can be lyrics, bars, boundaries, drugs, or organized crime…?

The MISSION:

1. Inspire young people who are at risk of being drawn into serious crime to make better life choices.

2. Use young people’s music, lyrics, stories and experiences to inspire others already committing serious crime to make a change.

The OUTCOME: The Mavericks project will culminate in the release of three high quality albums of authentic music across all streaming platforms, plus a documentary of the young peoples journey and showcase events.

Keep an eye out for us in your community from October 2025, when we will be looking for young people aged 12-25 to jump on the album, all whilst getting free studio time, plus access to top level industry equipment and producers.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the Mavericks programme over the last 14 years. We look forward to hopefully working with you again. Together we are more than just a music charity.

Music Fusion have some really fabulous friends, supporters and partners. Hence, it was an delight when Jacqui from Tesco got in touch to say, ‘Pop into the store, I have a surprise for you.’ Here is Jacqui with a trolley full of much needed folders, books, pens and of course… bottled water for the studio. The surprise was an extra pile of headphones and speakers to be donated directly to our young people. I believe this proves the idiom… every little helps.

June Update:

This month has been a winner for 1-2-1 sessions, with young people receiving over 165 hours of tailored delivery! We’ve had ballads, screamo, hip-hop, indie and even some musical theatre thrown in for good measure! These sessions are a great chance for young people to explore genres they love, write lyrics that help them process emotions, plus have a great time.

Our work with Cowplain and Park Community Schools has been a great success and we’re delighted that these partnerships will continue in September after the Summer Holidays. Matt and Kizz are drawing their work for The Power of Music project to a close, they’ve had a wonderful time supporting students to get more involved in the English curriculum using rapping as a way to boost engagement.

The Rockschool team have been jamming away, the Beats and Bars crew have been recording lots of material and The BASE attendees have been DJing, producing and writing. If anyone in interested in joining one of these groups, please get in touch, there are still a few spaces.

Jinx has been busy writing lots of funding applications, massive thanks to all who commented, shared and messaged us with feedback and quotes to support these applications. They make a massive difference, but also are amazing and inspiring for us to read.

Our work with Havant and East Hants Mind is developing nicely, with referrals coming through for young people that want to develop their musical skills, learn instruments and record original material. We’ve delivered over 25 hours’ worth of provision so far and seen some incredible results.

Here’s a track to cool you down during this heatwave, stay hydrated! 😊

May Update:

This month Music Fusion have begun to take referrals from Havant and East Hants Mind as part of a project funded by BeWell. Participants will attend tailored 1-2-1 sessions, with both organisations working together to ensure each young person receives the best support.

Our other regular referrals have not been impacted, with new attendees making all kinds of great music with our talented team of Music Leaders. This month we’ve had fans of Whitney Houston, Pierce The Veil, Billie Eilish, Queen, Morgan Wallace and Mitski to name a few!

School delivery has been super busy this May, with students from Glenwood and Harbour Schools attending 1-2-1s, Cowplain School receiving 2 group sessions every Friday, Park Community having bespoke multi-genre sessions and Trosnant and Warren Park pupils attending The Power of Music Project, using rap lyrics to improve literacy.

Our core groups, Rockschool, Beats and Bars and The BASE have all been putting in the hours, rehearsing for our Rumble Sale gig that was hosted at The Wedgewood Rooms on the 27th. The evening, supported by Southsea Sound, was a massive success!

For those that don’t know, the Rumble Sale was a musical equipment sale, all the weird and wonderful bits of kit you could imagine, plus a chance for people that support Music Fusion to get together, but most importantly, an opportunity for group session attendees to perform. It was a varied night of rap, indie, rock, pop and metal, photos and videos to follow, so keep an eye out!

Finally, big thanks to Lisa and our friends at Asda for providing us with some more bottled water for singers, rappers and musicians to stay hydrated during sessions! Always very much appreciated. 😊
