Fast food giant McDonaldโ€™s has this afternoon announced plans for a new ยฃ4million restaurant in Commericial Road, which it says will create 100 new jobs.

The proposal also includes a coffee shop and an electric vehicle charging hub.

The two acre site, between Sainsburyโ€™s and Aldi, incorporates 38 car parking spaces and would allow space for โ€œfuture potential developmentโ€.

Coffee chain Starbucks has previously been mooted as a potential business which may further add to Hawickโ€™s offer.

As previously reported, McDonaldโ€™s was granted approval for a restaurant on the Commercial Road site in 2020 but the development did not proceed.

A company spokesperson said a planning application is expected to be submitted โ€œsoonโ€.

โฐTime: 19.00-21.00
๐ŸŒŽLocation: Heart of Hawick

LIMITED SPACES REMAINING, PLEASE ONLY BOOK IF YOU CAN COMMIT TO FULL PROJECT.

โ€˜Untold Stories: Tales from the Townโ€™ is a ten-week community theatre project led by Live Borders Arts & Creativity and Heart of Hawick where anyone with an interest in writing or acting can work with professional theatre makers to bring their stories to the stage.

The project focuses on expanding the untold stories of some of Hawickโ€™s most iconic buildings and their past, present and future inhabitants.

Staff from Live Borders Museums, Galleries and Archives including The Heritage Hub and Borders Textile Towerhouse will be joined by a local historian to spark creative ideas for writers to respond to. We will then be working with local theatre legends Ellie Zeegan and Clare Prenton to develop these ideas into performances ready for the stage.

Learn more on our website or come along to our information session on Tuesday 20th January 2026.
