Today marks the launch of the Alliance for Inclusive Literacy Education — a new collaborative network working to ensure that every learner, including those with complex communication needs, is supported with evidence-based and accessible literacy opportunities.

I am proud to be a Founder Member, joining organisations across the UK who share a commitment to high-quality, inclusive literacy practice.

Launching on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we stand with our fellow members in recognising every learner’s right to meaningful literacy instruction — and the
importance of working together to raise expectations, strengthen practice, and share expertise.

The new Department for Education ‘Technology in Schools Survey: 2024-25’ report has some interesting nuggets.

- More use of assistive technology (nearly doubling in primary)
- Fall in use of tablets for learning in primary (despite there being more devices)
- More use for pastoral communication and monitoring, etc.

A Cloze Document is a great way for learners to test themselves on curriculum content.

For revision purposes, teachers or students can copy and paste text from classroom materials or any online revision tools they prefer to use to create a quick fill-in-the-gap activity to help identify areas that they need to study more.

We recently updated our Alphabet Charts and added two free customisable packs, arranged alphabetically and by letter frequency. They are designed to support people who can spell but find it difficult to point to letters. Each pack includes eight chart options and a help sheet to support getting started!
