We’ve got an exciting line up of contemporary experimental folk for you through the day at Trades Club on Saturday 11th June, headed up by the fabulous Stick in the Wheel

Stick In The Wheel’s work is rooted in traditional music and song, informed by the modern electronic music that grew out of their hybrid East London heritage. Nicola Kearey and Ian Carter use centuries-old work-songs that speak to present-day issues of class - an inherently political act - as well as historical material from Saxon poetry to Medieval carols. Their third studio album, Hold Fast, is a deeply layered journey of hope and resistance, with a sonic palette that is wider yet more nuanced than ever, with synths, spoken word and psychedelic guitar fuzz. 2021 experimental mixtape Tonebeds for Poetry is #2 Contemporary Music Guardian Album of the Year.

SITW continue to push forward the contemporary tradition of roots music, whilst maintaining and celebrating music from our collective histories - conjuring the past to point toward the future. They’re not to be missed!

“a remarkable psychogeographic voyage through a thousand years of London culture” Uncut Magazine 9/10

“tracking london’s sonic identity through the ages - incredible stuff”

Hello! All’s been quiet for a while, but here’s something that we’ve helped to organise with Hebden Folk Roots Festival. There’s a free daytime event an evening fundraiser (suggested donation £5), tickets available in the bio.

At 2pm will be showcasing the amazing artists that took part in their Calder Folk project (link in The Cloud Gallery bio)

At 7pm we’re bringing you the trad and the rad - The Brothers Gillespie will be heading over from Northumbria. With vocal harmony, flute, fiddle, mandolin and guitars, the brothers weave magical and strange melodies reminiscent of Folk Revival bands like The Incredible String Band. ‘Their music is ethereal, romantic and radical’ (Folk Expo). And joining them we have Atlas Bridge. They’re an acoustic trio featuring Uilleann piper & multi-instrumentalist Becky Taylor, on 5 string banjo and vocals, Madeline Smyth and on guitar, Steve Lacey. Expect engaging, high energy, lively tune sets, leave your pipe and slippers at home and dust down for a hoe down !

Tickets for both events available through the bio!

It’s gonna be GREAT!!

No Folk Without Fire have had the pleasure of hosting Sangre de Muerdago, Cinder Well , Pig Society Sallows captain hotknives and others.. The Fox and Goose also hold regular jam nights, film nights, poetry and pretty much anything you can fit in the tiny backroom, Cubes Ville tells me he once saw Steve Ignorant official playing a gig there but you'll have to ask him about that. This is Hebden's most treasured pub and it would be great to see it open again. Cheers! x

Help us raise £16,000 to build permanent, heated structures in the beer garden.

"No Summer" marks the staggering return of Cinder Well. It elegantly weaves a compelling and contemplative folk patchwork of solitude and cultural identity.
