Switching things up for the for the guest mix series this week is the incredibly talented .kio.mtl hailing all the way from Montreal, Canada 🥳🥳

Growing up with a Dad who was a DJ, she has always been immersed in music and as she explored what it had to offer she found she was ‘always drawn to bass-heavy sounds - the kind that shake your chest and move your soul. I started sneaking into warehouse raves around 15 and instantly knew that world was home. The sound systems, the lights, the people - it all just clicked’. ✨️

She’s began DJing 6 years ago with her Dad and cousin being her first teachers, ‘they showed me the ropes and from there it became an obsession - the hobby turned into a passion and the passion turned into reality’

Her preferred genres are jungle, DnB, 140, dubstep and garage with friends describing her sound as ‘bass & drum not drum and bass’ and she says they’re not wrong, ‘across every genre I touch, bass is the heartbeat. I’m all about thick, rolling low-end energy that you can feel’ but she also has a soft spot for nostalgic bootlegs ‘those remixes that make a whole room sing’ 🎶

The goal for Kio is always about connection, ‘I want to make people feel something, whether it’s joy, nostalgia or just pure release. I like to teach through sound - taking people on a journey’ 💜

She pours her heart and soul into the sounds she creates, ‘It’s more than music for me. It’s emotion, story and spirit. When I play I’m opening my world, and I want people to come with me for the ride’ ✨️

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing you to the tour de force that is .dnb 🙌🙌

Originally from south but currently based in North London she has been making big waves in the underground scene in the short time since she began playing out in 2023, combining many talents including singing, mixing and slowly but surely production too! 🤯

She had always heard DnB on and off growing up but didn’t actually have a concept of the genre until later when she became more immersed in the rave scene. ‘The first track I ever heard was ‘Voodoo People - Pendulum’. She eventually got into DJing because as she puts it; ‘I fell so in love with the music that raving wasn’t enough anymore’. 😍

Her music journey began in ‘21 when she had the opportunity to do vocals for her friend Mega Mikes on the song Je Ne Se Pas. ‘Singing has always been my first love, DJing just kinda happened due to my actual obsession with drum and bass.’ 🫶

She loves the sense of community in the scene as well as the history behind the music and the culture. ‘This music has been a massive platform for self-expression for so many’ including herself as she describes her sound as ‘a way for me to express the energy I have inside of me. A lot of times it’s gonna be dark soulful minimal vibes but will also be heavy, extremely heavy’.

This has allowed her to create her own distinctive sound centred in the very heavy and dark sides of the genre, while drawing from all elements of DnB but with a leaning towards ‘a rolling bassline or high energy drums’. 🎶

Highlights in her journey so far include playing at Boomtown ‘25 and ‘24, playing in a club for the first time and it being Corsica studios and running her first event with Connectshun. ✨️

Airbender by name but also by nature as she will take you on a journey in the dance, creating sounds that will make you bend your body as well as your mind. Show this woman some love! 💜 (mix in bio)

Delivering us all an absolute treat of a mix that will take you on a journey through genres is the lovely soul .dnb, from Hertfordshire 😇

Hog is a true ally to the underground having grown up with a mum who was once a part of the Exodus Collective who ran free parties in the 90s, it only feels right that he found himself a spot in the scene. ‘One of my earliest memories of music is around 8 years old when my mum used to go to her friends house who owned a pirate radio called ‘Flip-Side’. All posted up in a nice family home haha!’ 😂

His love of music began with metal and exploring all of it’s different sub-genres but it was in summer 2019 when he and some friends went to Nass festival that really got him into the raving side of life. It was only a few years later in 2022 where he began to give DJing a go and wow has he achieved some feats in the short time since stepping up to the decks! 🤩

Highlights so far include:

● Supporting for Napes
● ‘Playing E1 alongside .dnb and under GetHookd was a massive milestone for us’
● Playing at Boomtown 2025
● Not to mention handing over the decks to DJ Aphrodite on many occasions at Lifefm.tv

But the biggest standout memory for him was at Pioneer Skatepark for a THC x PBC Christmas skatejam. ‘It was so great to play to all my homies that I didn’t see for ages’ 🫶

He has immense love for the underground community, ‘I love how open the scene is. From working closely with GetHookd, LoveHertz, Copper Bottom Sounds & Piratek, we made something truly special at our local club in Hemel’. ✨

When stepping to the decks his preferred genres to mix out are jungle and minimal but he also has a taste for other flavours including liquid/funk. ‘I love to play every style of DnB, 160 and occasional 140. I find it difficult to describe my sound but I find it is a way to express myself’. 🎶

His goal is always to make people smile and groove out and he enjoys storytelling in most sets; time and atmosphere depending! And he has definitely taken us on a journey with this latest mix so make sure to check it out! 🙌🙌🙌

Happy Saturday Squatchers! 💜 Next up delivering an absolute beast of a mix for us is the wonderful .dnb from London 🙌🏼

HDDN first got into the scene after attending a gig at the legendary O2 Brixton Academy in 2018 where he saw Dimension, Sub Focus & Jauz, ‘the clash of good vibes and dirty bass lines had me obsessed, exploring the genre deeper and stumbling across one of the most diverse genres!’

This obsession soon led to him learning to DJ as a hobby but then after sharing his dreams with his girlfriend she convinced him to chase for what he wanted. ‘I started playing at house parties and got my first gig! Things where I didn’t believe I could do has been done. My first house party was a smash!’ 🥳

Dance floor and jump up are his preferred genres with influences from Sub Focus, Tantrum Desire, Sota & Primate. Creating mixes that take you on a journey from the ‘euphoric and melodic atmospheres that evoke emotional moments to that raw energy to immediately turn them emotional moments into skank faces & skankers!’ 🔥

His first gig in London demonstrated his immense skill at this, making the debut even more memorable, the room was filled with energy and screams of ‘F**k Off!'. 'It had felt I’d shared those rave moments with others capturing that same energy.’ ✨️

He loves the amount of people in the scene who share the same love for the music, and it was his desire to give back to the culture that inspired him to begin production this year. ‘Being able to produce songs that would make people feel the way I felt when going to raves’

So until he releases the album he aspires to create, he is gifting our ears with this incredible high energy mix guaranteed to kick start your weekend! 😁
