Charles Owen Update
The announcement that Charles Owen will cease UK manufacturing in December has prompted one of the strongest reactions we’ve seen across the trade for some time. With speculation moving quickly online, we contacted the company directly for clarity.
CEO Dave Derby has now provided full answers to Equestrian Business, and we have also published an editor’s comment on what this means for the wider industry.
This year shines a spotlight on creating safer, fairer and more respectful workplaces across the equestrian sector — and a major new initiative has just launched to support that goal.
The Equestrian Workforce Behaviours Survey, developed by British Equestrian, the BGA and the EEA, is calling on everyone working in the industry to share their experiences. From bullying and verbal abuse to sexual harassment or behaviour that made someone feel unsafe, the survey aims to build a clearer picture of what’s really happening on yards — and what needs to change.
🎉 Celebrating excellence across the equestrian community! 🐴✨
The British Horse Society has honoured its incredible volunteers, supporters and partners at the 2025 Annual Awards — with tributes led by President Martin Clunes OBE. From lifelong dedication to inspiring young achievers (and even a very special pony named Treacle 🐎), this year’s winners truly reflect the passion and purpose at the heart of the BHS.
Chief Executive James Hick said: “This is one of the year’s highlights for us as a charity, as we acknowledge and celebrate the incredible efforts of our volunteer community—which currently stands at more than 1,500.”
Few companies can boast two centuries in business — but Henry Bell & Co has done just that, celebrating its 200th anniversary in style with a special dinner at Belton Woods Hotel in Grantham. 🍾✨
Guests from across the animal and bird feeds sector joined Managing Director Thomas Lee and Finance Director Carol Foster for an evening of good food, live music 🎷 and a touch of magic 🎩 — marking a proud moment for the fourth-generation family business behind EquiGlo Horse Feeds.

With insights from experts including Pippa Funnell MBE, Zara Tindall MBE, and Rt Hon Caroline Nokes MP, this thought-provoking event is set to inspire reflection across the equestrian world.
