🪱⚠️ Could one of the UK's most dangerous equine parasites be making a comeback?

Westgate Labs has launched a free educational film raising awareness of the potential resurgence of large redworm in UK horses as the industry increasingly adopts targeted parasite control programmes. 🐴🔬

The 10-minute film explores why worm egg counts alone cannot identify large redworm infections, which horses and yards may be most at risk, and how larval culture testing could play a role in risk-based parasite control.

Studs, competition yards, horses travelling internationally and premises with frequent horse movement are among those for whom annual screening may be particularly relevant.

Discover why this emerging issue is attracting attention across the equestrian sector and hear directly from Claire Shand of Westgate Labs in our full story, where you will also find a link to the film. 🎥 👇📖

Such an important role, and one that often doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Many horse owners rely on their local SQP for trusted advice throughout the year, so it's great to see National SQP Week shining a spotlight on the profession. Well done to everyone involved.

Celebrating National SQP Week 🐴🐑

This week marks the first ever National SQP Week, celebrating the vital role SQPs play in supporting the health and wellbeing of pets, horses, livestock and birds across the UK.

What is an SQP? 💊

An SQP, also known as an Animal Medicines Advisor, is a trained and regulated professional who can prescribe, dispense and supply certain animal medicines, including wormers and other animal health products.

At Chelford Farm Supplies, we’re proud to have many fantastic SQP qualified staff across both our Farm Shop and Horse Shop. Although not all are pictured here, our SQPs play an important role every day, helping customers choose the right products safely, responsibly and with confidence.
