Train to Heaven, WrocΕ‚aw – a steam locomotive reaching for the sky

In the Polish city of WrocΕ‚aw, a full-size Ty2-1035 steam locomotive stands on end at Strzegomski Square, pointing straight towards the sky.

Known as the β€œTrain to Heaven” (PociΔ…g do nieba), this 30-metre-long, 80-ton engine was erected in 2010 as a striking piece of public art by local artist Andrzej Jarodzki. Commissioned by the city and developer Archicom, it has quickly become one of WrocΕ‚aw’s most recognisable landmarks.

The sculpture uses a real locomotive, lifted from railway history and set on its end, to suggest dreams, ambition and the idea of pushing beyond the impossible – all framed in steel, rivets and rails.

πŸš† UK Rail Round-Up | The Railway Hub πŸš†

The December timetable change is now in effect across the UK rail network, bringing revised services and operational adjustments aimed at improving reliability and capacity on key routes.

Across the country, Christmas and New Year engineering works are taking place, with Network Rail teams using the quieter festive period to carry out essential maintenance, renewals and infrastructure upgrades that support long-term network performance.

Rail operators are reminding passengers to check services before travelling over the holiday period, as some routes are subject to temporary changes while this work is completed.

Weather resilience and infrastructure safety also remain in focus, with continued monitoring of embankments, cuttings and drainage following recent periods of challenging weather conditions in parts of the UK.

Meanwhile, longer-term rail improvement programmes β€” including capacity enhancements, station upgrades and future-focused infrastructure projects β€” continue to progress behind the scenes.
