The East Lancashire Railway has won a Roch Valley Radio Community Hero Award, recognising the dedication of the 800+ volunteers who help keep the heritage railway running.

Chairman Mike Kelly described the recognition as โ€œincredibly humblingโ€.

From 1979: A two-train service operated over the Torbay & Dartmouth Railway during the summer now that the loop has been relayed at Churston Station, with a new signalbox on the down platform controlling colour-light signals.

On July 2, 1979 Great Western 2-6-2 tank engine No. 4588 waited in the loop heading the 12.15 from Kingswear as 2-8-0 tank 5239, named โ€œGoliathโ€ the previous week, arrived on the 12.15 from Paignton.

โ€œClyde Coast Pullmanโ€, London (Euston) to Glasgow and Gourock, near Crawford, between Beattock and Carstairs, on June 29, headed by No. 86 029.
