Opened on 13 April 1867, built by the Midland Railway as part of the Keighley–Worth Valley branch line.

It's constructed in typical Midland style — coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings, steep slate roofs, and distinctive platform canopies. The original buildings survive and are Grade II listed.

"One from over 7 years ago catches 37403 ‘Isle of Mull’ arriving Ravenglass with the 2C34 14:35 Carlisle to Barrow service as it silhouettes crossing Ravenglass Viaduct at low tide. I remember this running 10 mins late, which was just enough time for the sun to sink level with the Viaduct. Sun star was purposely created at F16. 1st Feb 2018."
