The Aviation Show

The Aviation Show Welcome to The Aviation Show! Brought to you in association with the Pima Air and Space Museum.

The Aviation Show celebrates aviation and aerospace, from the first attempts of people jumping off things to humans being fired into space. The Aviation Show takes a fresh look at the past, present and future of civil and military aviation and aerospace, from the earliest days of people jumping off of rocks, to the latest in unmanned flight. Even if you only have a passing interest in flight and spaceflight, we will have something for you!

A lovely shot of NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center's ER-2 NASA809, climbing out on one of its ALOFT missions to gather data on the Terrestrial Gamma-ray Flashes (TGFs) produced in thunderstorms on July 12, 2023.

The ER (Earth Resources)-2 is a modified Lockheed U-2 that collects information about the Earth’s resources, celestial observations, atmospheric chemistry and dynamics, and oceanic processes.

in 1928, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to cross the Atlantic by air when she flew as a passenger in a Fokker F.VIIb/3m 'Friendship', flown by Wilmer Stultz with mechanic Louis 'Slim' Gordon.

When Earhart flew the Atlantic solo in 1932, she was the first person to fly the Atlantic twice.

You can find out more about Earhart and her life in my chat with Author and Journalist Laurie Gwen Shapiro, author of the superb The Aviator and The Showman. Check out the links in the first comment below.

The crash's human toll on the USAF test community is hard to fathom, and it will also have an impact on the already under-pressure B-52 modernization program.

Sometimes only rockets will do! In this clip from the original 1952 USAF B-47 Stratojet pilot familiarisation film, pilots are instructed on the fantastic, mad Rocket Assisted Take Off system that would allow the B-47 to get into the air while fully loaded.

You can see the full film onmour YouTube channel.
