Little Cobs Daycare Prepares for Long-Awaited Ofsted Inspection Ahead of Planned Open Days

Little Cobs Daycare is preparing for a significant milestone next week, with its long-awaited Ofsted inspection scheduled to take place on Monday.

Staff at the nursery have confirmed that, subject to receiving the all-clear from inspectors, they plan to open their doors to the community with two upcoming open sessions, giving parents and carers the opportunity to come along, meet the team, and see the nursery environment first-hand.

If approved, the open days will take place on:

Monday 22 December, 1pm – 3pm

Tuesday 23 December, 10am – 12pm

The sessions are designed to give families a chance to look around the nursery, ask questions, and find out more about the care and learning on offer at Little Cobs Daycare.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to message the nursery via Facebook to let staff know they are coming, or alternatively email [email protected].

The team at Little Cobs say they are excited to finally reach this stage and are looking forward to welcoming local families, pending a successful inspection outcome.

📰 Flu Cases on the Rise – Hospital Urges Visitors to Take Precautions

Barnsley Hospital has issued an important reminder to visitors as flu cases continue to rise across the area, urging everyone to take simple steps to help protect patients, staff and the wider community.

Visitors are being strongly advised to wear face masks in all clinical areas of the hospital during this period of increased flu activity. Masks are available on wards and in hospital departments.

The hospital is also asking members of the public not to visit if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms, including a fever, cough, sore throat or body aches, to help reduce the risk of infection spreading.

Visitors who do attend are reminded to:

Ensure masks fully cover both the nose and mouth

Wash or sanitise hands before and after wearing a mask

Hospital staff have thanked the public for their cooperation, highlighting that these measures play a vital role in protecting vulnerable patients, supporting frontline staff and keeping services running safely.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and considerate during the current rise in flu cases, helping to keep everyone safe this winter.

Community Support Praised as The Keys Raise £1,395 for Action for Children

The team at The Keys have issued a heartfelt thank you to the community following their recent Brass Band and Carols by Candlelight event, after the venue was unfortunately let down when the brass band failed to attend.

After taking time to reflect, The Keys said that after many years of successfully hosting live entertainment and community events, they were bound to encounter a setback at some point. They expressed sincere appreciation for the understanding, kindness and supportive messages received from those who attended, describing the response as overwhelming and deeply appreciated.

Despite the disappointment on the night, there was a very positive outcome, with an impressive £1,395 raised for Action for Children. The team confirmed that the charity will still receive the full amount raised through ticket sales, reassuring guests that any refund requests will be covered directly by The Keys, ensuring the charity does not lose out.

Anyone wishing to request a refund has been encouraged to contact The Keys directly, with the team more than happy to assist.

The Keys also thanked everyone who attended and showed their support, saying the goodwill shown truly reflects the strength of the local community and reminds them why they love hosting events. They hope to welcome everyone back again over the festive period. 🎄✨

Hosepipe Ban Lifted After Six Months – But Was It the Right Call?

After six long months of restrictions, Yorkshire Water has officially lifted its hosepipe ban, bringing an end to the rules that affected households across our region.

The ban, introduced during a period of prolonged dry weather and low reservoir levels, meant residents were unable to use hosepipes for everyday tasks such as watering gardens, washing cars, or filling paddling pools. For many, it was a frustrating but necessary measure aimed at protecting vital water supplies.

Now that the restriction has been removed, people can return to normal water use — though Yorkshire Water continues to urge customers to use water responsibly.

💬 But what do YOU think?

Did you agree with the hosepipe ban in the first place?

Was it a necessary step to protect water supplies?

Or do you feel customers were unfairly restricted?

We’d like to hear the community’s views. Let us know in the comments whether you supported the ban, opposed it, or think things should have been handled differently.

💧 Ban lifted – debate open.
