This is the positive side of socials. This morning I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with a 17-year-old lad called George, who came to see me up at the big pile as a birthday gift after his dad reached out on here. It was –2°C, but he cracked on without a word of complaint. He’s an aspiring dry stone waller with a real passion for the craft & even bough a tungsten carbide nicker after watching me.

Never did I think that my videos of me dressing stone would lead to young lads like this wanting to meet me and learn a bit. Hopefully more lads from the next generation will see that there’s a future in manual work — and that choosing a trade doesn’t make you a failure just because you’re “not academic.” I was told the same when I was younger, but look how far it’s taken me.

Keep going fella, the trade needs more young lads like you.

Over here on the dark side in the town of Horwich, where I live, the Parish Church is undergoing repairs to the stonework. In the pictures, you can see some of the very intricate work carried out by (At the moment by an unknown mason) at the top of the church tower. Also, the start of some repairs to the stonework of a window. I do not know where the stone comes from, but perhaps it comes from Withnell Quarry the Quarry which supplies stone for the construction of the Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona.
