“The spontaneity, creativity, and skill mostly come from how Dowse uses his equipment, not how well the equipment can shape him”.

On Sat 17 Feb at Creative Folkestone Quarterhouse get ready for the guitar legend Thick Drizzle, a solo side project of South London band Dry Cleanings’s Tom Dowse.
Dowse’s work as part of Dry Cleaning ranges from “walls of noise and scratchy riffs” to “heavenly soundscapes, and squeals that sound more like animals than instruments”.
Through his project Thick Drizzle, he weaves finger-picked guitar in the vein of Karen Dalton and John Fahey, through his sweeping vocals bringing to mind contemporaries like Richard Dawson and Mount Eerie/The Microphones.

His songs are a cosmology of folklore and personal myth that conjure a sense of place both real and imagined. Augmented by soundscapes sculpted using tape loops and field recordings, Thick Drizzle seeks to bring to life a world of its own.

We have a new Five In Five. Would have posted about it last night but Chris and I were out A+R-ing at different ends of the country...

It's George from Hot Salvation - an amazing distro, check them for radical sounds (you need the Meitei records, for instance). He was also in November Coming Fire, the raging Kent hardcore band from back in the day. George technically picks five records, just about. The rules are being stretched but that's punk rock and we're good with that. Cheers for doing it George!

Five in Five - a weekly series, every Thursday, 7pm. If you think you should do one, get in touch.
