๐ SCOTLAND GETS A BRAND-NEW STATION ON SUNDAY
Balgray station near Barrhead welcomes its first passengers this Sunday.
The new station cost ยฃ18.3 million and has been delivered both AHEAD OF SCHEDULE and WITHIN BUDGET. ๐
Passengers will get half-hourly ScotRail services to Glasgow Central, giving the growing community a new alternative to travelling by car.
The project has also generated ยฃ1.6m of spending with businesses across the Glasgow City Region.
๐ท ARE PUBLIC TRANSPORT FARES RIGHT?
This could become an important story for passengers.
Parliamentโs Transport Committee has launched an inquiry examining the Governmentโs role in public transport fares, pricing and ticketing.
Among the areas being examined are how fares are set and whether the current system supports the aim of increasing public transport use.
With the cost and complexity of rail tickets regularly debated, this is one to watch.
๐จ RAIL ASSAULTS RISE
New Office of Rail and Road safety statistics show a worrying increase in reported assaults during 2025/26.
๐ 11,289 reported assaults against mainline railway workers โ up 12%.
๐ฅ 13,464 reported assaults against passengers and members of the public โ up 36%.
However, there was also a substantial fall in mainline train accidents, which dropped 43% to 252.
No mainline train accident resulted in a passenger, public or workforce fatality during the year.
๐ NEW PICCADILLY LINE TRAIN ON SHOW
Londonโs next-generation Piccadilly line train has been showcased at the InnoTrans transport exhibition in Berlin.
The Siemens-built trains promise wider doors, walk-through interiors and, importantly during hot London summers, AIR CONDITIONING. โ๏ธ
Theyโre designed to increase capacity while using significantly less energy than the trains they replace.
๐ง WEST YORKSHIRE UPDATE
Closer to home, Huddersfield and Slaithwaite remain closed as the huge Transpennine Route Upgrade blockade continues.
Engineers are working around the clock on Huddersfield station, additional tracks, signalling, drainage and preparations for electrification.
The stations are scheduled to reopen Monday 5 October.
