One of the oceans gentle giants. The basking shark. The last time I saw one was here in the Isles of Scilly back in 2008. Luckily I checked my phone just as I was finishing a seabird survey on Gugh the other night to see a message about a fully grown adult of the eastern isles so I couldn’t resist a little detour on route home to look for it. Quite the size at around 18ft.

It a nice surprise when you find out the BBC has put together a 10 minute reel of footage you shot for them at the 2023 and 2024 World Pilot Gig Champs and added them onto iplayer.

Excitement builds on the Isles of Scilly at the World Pilot Gig Championships.
