I was in Cambridge yesterday for my usual meetings and content creation day with clients. It’s such an exciting time, students are back, and businesses are eager to capture their attention.
With around 25,000 students flooding into Cambridge, it’s no surprise that local businesses are looking for ways to connect with this vibrant audience. Students are motivated to explore the city, discover new places, share their experiences and, of course, spend money! Once they find a favourite spot, their loyalty (and word-of-mouth) can be powerful.
So, how can businesses reach this audience? Student discounts are a good start, but they’re not enough. It’s about speaking their language, being visible in the right spaces, and collaborating with key venues and university partners.
At the end of the day, it’s all about creating the right experience and being memorable. Cambridge has a unique mix of students and tourists, so consistency in how you show up online, visually and in your messaging really matters. For example, video content performs especially well with younger audiences, so I’ve been developing that for my clients to help them connect on a deeper level.
I’m currently working on a social media project supporting a group of shops in the heart of Cambridge. This is my second year being involved, and I’m excited to experiment with new approaches and creative ideas.
If your business wants to reach this new wave of students, make sure you stand out and put a clear strategy in place so you don’t miss out!
