Don’t forget! ⏰ The clocks go back tonight, marking the end of British Summer Time.

While most of us just enjoy an extra hour in bed, the story began with one man’s bright idea.

Over a century ago, a builder realised how much daylight was wasted while people slept through sunny mornings. He campaigned to shift the clocks so evenings stayed lighter for longer, and the nation eventually agreed.

Now, every autumn, we turn the clocks back an hour, saying goodbye to summer and hello to cosy evenings. A small change, born from a simple idea to make the most of the light.

As we fall back, the days may be shorter, but the Highlands are glowing with autumn colour to brighten things up. 🍂

The Highlands have a way of capturing hearts ❤️ as seen in the beautiful stories shared with us. From cherished childhood memories to honeymooning in the mountains, to creating a place where others can experience the same magic they found here.

The places we hold dear are more than just locations; they’re woven into our stories, shaping who we are. From childhood adventures to life-changing moments, these special places stay with us, offering comfort, inspiration, and a sense of belonging.

Some of these stories have been poured into The Inverness Castle Experience, a place designed to celebrate the spirit, romance and deep connections people have with this land, and we can't wait to share it with you when we open this year.

The castle esplanade is being transformed from a utilitarian and functional landscape into a dynamic public space that can be enjoyed by all visitors to the castle.

You will see in the short video below that the new landscaping has been designed to be universally accessible and provides a safe and exciting route for visitors of all abilities.

Alongside an array of benches, public lawns will be planted before the gardens open, providing spaces to sit and enjoy the grounds year-round. A large number of cycle stands have been installed to promote active travel, and a selection of accessible parking bays will be available on-site for visitors to pre-book.

We're about to start the tattie holidays here in the Highlands! 🥔✨ Did you know this break has its roots in potato picking? Back in the day, October was all about lifting tatties by hand across Scotland, including right here in the Highlands. The tattie holidays were introduced in the 1930s, allowing children to skip school and help with the harvest – no wonder it was a popular time! 📚🚜

For many families, tattie lifting brought in a little extra money, which is why the October break stretched from one week to two in some places. Machines do the hard work these days, but the name and our love of tatties have stuck.

✨Stories gathered from across the Highlands have inspired the content for The Inverness Castle Experience, which will become a reality later this year.✨

✨Castle lighting test update✨

Over three evenings last week, the lighting at Inverness Castle was put through its paces - testing a full range of colours as part of preparations for the new visitor experience. The final lighting will be subtle and in keeping with the building. 💫

💫In the Highlands of Scotland, storytelling is more than just a way we pass the time – it’s a vital part of our culture. For generations, the seanchaidh, the Gaelic storyteller, has guarded ancient tales of heroism, folklore and mystery, keeping the secrets of the Highlands alive. These stories whisper of wild landscapes, legendary figures and the indomitable spirit of its people, bridging the past, present and future.

During the Experience, you will step into an immersive journey through themed rooms, hearing stories and music from across the Highlands. 🦚 You will be invited to wander through the landscaped gardens and lose yourself in a sensory experience. Here, the landscape, culture, heritage and people come to life in ways you’ve only imagined.✨

🎩✨ Vintage Vibes for Thursday Throwback!

Here’s a cracking old photo of Castle Street - cobbled roads, old-school cars, and shopfronts that give off proper vintage vibes.

It’s great to see how things have changed over the years. The street’s a lot busier now, but you can still spot bits of its original charm if you look closely.

🕵️‍♀️ Fancy a guess?
What year do you reckon this was taken?
Was it the roaring twenties? The swinging sixties? Or somewhere in between?
