Introducing the team!
Betsy King, founder of Raw Acts, has completed her masters in Arts, Festivals and Cultural Management. She has always had a passion for the creative arts since she was young, and completed her degree in Professional Theatre Practice. Betsy is also a board member of Scottish Youth Theatre and is currently continuing to pursue her passion in producing.
Betsy produced the first Raw Acts scratch night back in November 2024, supported by the charity Enable Works. Enable Works supports people with disabilities for whom additional support is needed to access employment, education and skills development. This formed part of the charity’s new ‘Tune In’ pilot, a project enabling young people aged 16-25 to join the music community, broaden their skills and advance their career prospects within the music and events industry. They kindly gave her a small budget to stage an event to boost her event management skills. Betsy is now continuing Raw Acts as her own enterprise.
Laura is a Glasgow based actor, writer, and producer, and has experience in communications. Previously she has worked with Dundee Rep Youth Theatre, Scottish Youth Theatre in their National Ensemble 2019 as well as on other projects, Company of Wolves, and Catalan street theatre company CRUMA. For two years, Laura was the Publicity Officer for GU Shakespeare and recently worked with Edinburgh-based company Mythography Collective as their publicity manager. She founded her own theatre company in 2024, Cutty Sark Theatre, and serves as Artistic Director and ongoing Producer. At Edinburgh Fringe 2025, she wrote and performed in the award-winning play, ‘Devil’s Point’., and is currently in rehearsals for a rehearsed reading of 'Aqua Sorella' with People Make Theatre. She can't wait to collaborate and promote Raw Acts!
