Introducing the team!

Betsy King, founder of Raw Acts, has completed her masters in Arts, Festivals and Cultural Management. She has always had a passion for the creative arts since she was young, and completed her degree in Professional Theatre Practice. Betsy is also a board member of Scottish Youth Theatre and is currently continuing to pursue her passion in producing.

Betsy produced the first Raw Acts scratch night back in November 2024, supported by the charity Enable Works. Enable Works supports people with disabilities for whom additional support is needed to access employment, education and skills development. This formed part of the charity’s new ‘Tune In’ pilot, a project enabling young people aged 16-25 to join the music community, broaden their skills and advance their career prospects within the music and events industry. They kindly gave her a small budget to stage an event to boost her event management skills. Betsy is now continuing Raw Acts as her own enterprise.

Laura is a Glasgow based actor, writer, and producer, and has experience in communications. Previously she has worked with Dundee Rep Youth Theatre, Scottish Youth Theatre in their National Ensemble 2019 as well as on other projects, Company of Wolves, and Catalan street theatre company CRUMA. For two years, Laura was the Publicity Officer for GU Shakespeare and recently worked with Edinburgh-based company Mythography Collective as their publicity manager. She founded her own theatre company in 2024, Cutty Sark Theatre, and serves as Artistic Director and ongoing Producer. At Edinburgh Fringe 2025, she wrote and performed in the award-winning play, ‘Devil’s Point’., and is currently in rehearsals for a rehearsed reading of 'Aqua Sorella' with People Make Theatre. She can't wait to collaborate and promote Raw Acts!

RAW ACTS IS BACK!

We're excited to announce another era of Raw Acts is upon us. But what exactly is Raw Acts?

Raw Acts is a Highlands-based scratch night initiative designed to foster emerging creative talent. It provides a platform for artists to showcase their work, receive feedback, and connect with industry professionals and peers. The event emphasises inclusivity, fair pay, and accessibility, aiming to address the lack of creative opportunities in the Scottish Highlands. Raw Acts is not your typical scratch night—it’s a bold, inclusive platform that goes beyond traditional theatre to showcase a diverse range of creative talent, from musicians and comedians to spoken word artists and more. Designed with accessibility, inclusivity, and mental health at its core, Raw Acts ensures that performers not only have the freedom and support to showcase their work but also access to mental health resources when needed. This commitment extends to our audience members, creating a safe and supportive environment for all.

What truly sets Raw Acts apart is its commitment to community feedback—each event evolves based on input from audiences and participants, ensuring it reflects what the public truly needs and loves. With networking opportunities and a focus on career development, Raw Acts is more than a performance night—it’s a space for connection, growth, and celebrating the vibrant creativity of the Highlands.

Hamish are happy to announce that we will be supporting George King in his efforts to complete the paperclip challenge. George is one of our esteemed associates, we’ll be supporting him by paying for his fuel during the challenge.

The challenge is to start with a paperclip and trade up to a house without spending any money on the trades. This could take some time but we’re very honoured to be supporting Mikeysline and the vital work that they do. Once we reach a house through trading up then Hamish will then cover the costs of selling the house at which point we’ll donate the proceeds to Mikeysline. Make sure to be following Hamish as we'll be updating the challenge as it goes forward.

Pictured here, George has already made the first trade. Swapped the paperclip for a Mikeysline Teddy Bear.

If you can help out any way then please email [email protected]
