Mid June in Scotland- let’s just call it atmospheric!
That’s the Big Black truck having its obligatory rest on route to this weekend’s event, the Argyll Rally.
A counter in both the Scottish Rally Championship and Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship. Good luck to everyone involved.

ARGYLL DATE FOR HISTORIC ASPHALT CHAMPIONSHIP

• Historic Asphalt Championship heads to Dunoon
• Stefan Davies and Will Rowlands neck and neck
• Challenging rally on closed roads of the Cowal Peninsula

Round five of six in the new Roger Albert Clark Historic Asphalt Rally Championship will take contenders north to the Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally on Friday and Saturday June 19-20.

The closed-road event, based in the town of Dunoon, features 16 special stages and around 70 competitive miles on the challenging roads of the Cowal Peninsula in south-west Scotland, and is the penultimate round in this year's inaugural Historic Asphalt Rally Championship.

After the opening four rounds it could not be closer between the Category 3 Ford Es**rt Mk2s of Stefan Davies/Michael Gilbey and Will Rowlands/Emyr Hall. Their sporting rivalry will now switch to the Argyll Rally and with each crew so far having two wins and two second places it could not be closer. However Rowlands could have the edge in Argyll as he won the historic section of the 2025 event while Davies is new to the event.

Chasing Rowlands and Davies in Category 3 will be two more competitive Ford Es**rt Mk2s for David Iwan Jones//Nigel Roberts and Graham Muter/Mark Mason. This is another new rally for Jones but Muter has good experience of the technical roads that make up the Argyll event.

In Category 4 Will Onions and Dave Williams are back in their BMW M3 after missing the Jim Clark Reivers Rally and will be seeking another category maximum as well as a strong overall result in the historic section of the rally. While this is a new event and a trip north for Onions, the final round of the championship will be very much on his home ground. Leading the chase of the BMW in Category 4 will be the Peugeot 205 GTi of Paul Clayton and Veera Johnson, who will be another crew making their Argyll debut.

After strong runs on the Isle of Man and Jim Clark Reivers, Ian Robertson and Andrew Scott are setting the Category 2 pace in their Hillman Avenger. However, back to rival them this time around will be the Mini Cooper of Andrew O’Hanlon and Kevin Hogan. Battling with O’Hanlon and set to take top points in Category 1 will be the earlier Mini Cooper of Shane Gamble and Julia Perry.

The Argyll Rally starts with two runs of a Dunoon town centre stage on Friday evening before the route heads out into the surrounding countryside. There is a full day of competition on Saturday and a ceremonial finish on the Dunoon seafront on Saturday afternoon. After the Argyll Rally, the Historic Asphalt Rally Championship will conclude on the Hills Ford Stages in Shropshire on September 19-20.

WRC STARS SET FOR SCOTLAND AUDITION

With Rally Scotland confirmed to return to the FIA World Rally Championship calendar in 2027, this August's Grampian Forest Rally is set to provide a valuable opportunity for several WRC crews to gain experience of Scottish gravel roads ahead of next season.

The British Rally Championship round, based in Banchory, has already attracted a number of current World Rally Championship competitors in Rally2 machinery, underlining the growing significance of the event.

As we previously reported, current WRC championship leaders Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin will be among the headline names competing in the event, while M-Sport Ford World Rally Team are also expected to field at least two crews.

While the Grampian Forest Rally has long been recognised as one of Britain's premier gravel rallies, confirmation of Rally Scotland's return to the world championship has added further importance to the event.

For crews preparing for next year's WRC visit, the rally offers an opportunity to experience Scottish conditions, gather valuable data and build knowledge of the type of roads they could encounter when the championship returns.

With increasing attention focused on Scotland ahead of its WRC comeback, the Grampian Forest Rally is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing events on the British rally calendar this season and could offer an early glimpse of some of the crews hoping to shine when the world's best return in 2027.
