♻️ Paper Bottles Are Closing the Price Gap with Glass.
The new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) levy is changing packaging economics — and it’s good news for sustainable innovation.
Under EPR, producers will be charged for the full net cost of managing their packaging once it becomes waste.
That means high-carbon, heavy materials like glass will face bigger cost increases, while lighter, low-carbon alternatives like the Frugal Bottle will become more competitive than ever.

Why this matters:
🍾 Glass already makes up to 68% of the wine & spirits industry’s carbon footprint
🛑 The EPR levy will penalise high-impact materials and reward low-carbon ones
♻️ Frugal Bottles are 84% lower carbon than glass, 5x lighter, and made from 94% recycled paper
💷 As EPR charges start to hit, the price gap between paper and glass is narrowing fast - giving brands, retailers, and packaging companies a powerful new incentive to switch to sustainable formats.
Frugalpac is currently in the early stages of a £5 million fundraising campaign to expand production capacity and bring new sustainable products to market, including the Frugal Paint Pot, which is under development making paint pots easier to recycle.
Of this, £1 million has already been raised from existing investors.
