Using Google Ads & Local SEO to Boost Your Landscaping Business

While organic SEO is essential for long-term success, Google Ads and local SEO can give your landscaping business an immediate boost. Here’s how to use them effectively.

---

1. Running Google Ads for Your Landscaping Business

Google Ads (formerly Google AdWords) allows you to pay for a top position in search results. This is useful for getting leads quickly while waiting for your organic SEO efforts to take effect.

How Google Ads Work

You bid on keywords related to landscaping services.

When someone searches for those terms, your ad appears at the top of Google.

You pay only when someone clicks on your ad (Pay-Per-Click or PPC).

Setting Up a Google Ads Campaign

1. Go to Google Ads and create an account.

2. Choose "Search Ads" – These appear at the top of Google search results.

3. Select Target Location – Focus on your local area (e.g., "Landscaping services in Manchester").

4. Choose Keywords – Use Google’s Keyword Planner to find high-intent terms, such as:

"Landscape gardeners near me"

"Artificial grass installation Glasgow"

"Garden design experts in Leeds"

5. Write a Compelling Ad – Example:

Headline: "Expert Landscaping Services | Free Quote Today"

Description: "Professional garden design & landscaping in Birmingham. Call now for a free consultation!"

6. Set Your Budget – Start with £5-£20 per day and adjust based on performance.

Optimising Google Ads for Maximum Results

✅ Use Negative Keywords – Prevent wasted ad spend by excluding irrelevant searches (e.g., "DIY landscaping").
✅ Create Multiple Ad Variations – Test different headlines and descriptions.
✅ Add Call Extensions – Show your phone number in ads for direct calls.
✅ Track Performance – Use Google Ads Analytics to measure clicks, conversions, and ROI.

---

2. Mastering Local SEO for Landscaping

Local SEO helps your website rank higher for location-based searches (e.g., “Landscapers in London”).

Key Local SEO Strategies

A. Optimise Your Google My Business Profile

As mentioned earlier, your Google My Business (GMB) profile is critical for ranking in Google Maps and local searches.

Steps to Improve GMB Ranking:
✅ Keep your business details (Name, Address, Phone) consistent across all platforms.
✅ Add high-quality images of your past landscaping projects.
✅ Post updates regularly (e.g., seasonal offers, customer reviews).
✅ Get more Google Reviews – Respond to every review (good or bad) professionally.

B. Local Citations & Directories

List your business on trusted UK directories to boost credibility and rankings. Examples:

Yell.com

Checkatrade

Houzz UK

TrustATrader

Thomson Local

Tip: Ensure your business name, address, and phone number match exactly across all listings.

C. Get Featured on Local Blogs & News Sites

Write guest posts for gardening & home improvement blogs.

Get listed in local news articles about landscaping trends.

Contact local bloggers for partnerships or interviews.

---

3. Combining Google Ads & Local SEO for Best Results

To dominate local searches, use a combination of Google Ads and SEO:
✅ Run Google Ads for quick leads.
✅ Optimise your website & content for long-term SEO growth.
✅ Boost your local presence with Google My Business & directory listings.
✅ Encourage reviews & social proof to increase trust.

By applying both Google Ads and local SEO, your landscaping business can rank at the top of Google search results and attract more high-quality leads.

How to Get a Landscaping Website to the Top of Google Search Results

In today’s digital world, having a professional website is essential for any landscaping business. However, simply having a website isn’t enough—you need to ensure that potential customers can find it easily. Ranking at the top of Google’s search results can significantly increase your leads and conversions.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to optimising your landscaping website for Google and boosting its ranking.

---

1. Conduct Keyword Research

Keywords are the search terms that potential customers use to find landscaping services. To rank higher, you need to target the right keywords.

How to Find the Best Keywords:

Use free tools like Google Keyword Planner or Ubersuggest to discover relevant keywords.

Focus on local search terms, e.g.:

"Landscaping services in [Your Town]"

"Garden design near me"

"Artificial grass installation in [Your City]"

Include long-tail keywords (phrases with 3+ words), as they have less competition but attract high-intent customers.

Where to Use Keywords:

Page titles & headings

Website content (blogs, service pages)

Meta descriptions

Image alt text

URL structure

---

2. Optimise Your Website for SEO

On-Page SEO (Optimising Your Website Content)

Title Tags & Meta Descriptions: Ensure every page has a unique, keyword-rich title and description. Example:

Title: Expert Landscaping Services in London – Free Quote

Meta Description: Professional landscaping & garden design in London. Get a free consultation today!

Headings & Subheadings: Use clear, structured headings (H1, H2, H3) to make content easy to read.

Internal Linking: Link to other relevant pages on your site to improve navigation and SEO.

Technical SEO (Ensuring Your Website Runs Smoothly)

Mobile-Friendly Design: Google prioritises mobile-optimised websites. Use responsive design to ensure your site works well on phones and tablets.

Fast Page Loading Speed: Use tools like Google PageSpeed Insights to check and improve loading speed. Reduce image sizes and enable caching.

Secure Website (SSL Certificate): A website with HTTPS (not HTTP) is more secure and ranks higher.

---

3. Get Listed on Google My Business

Google My Business (GMB) is essential for ranking in local searches (e.g., "Landscapers near me").

How to Optimise Your GMB Listing:

Claim your Google My Business profile at google.com/business

Add accurate business name, address, phone number (NAP consistency)

Upload high-quality photos of your work

Write a compelling business description with keywords

Encourage customer reviews and respond to them

Example of a Great GMB Profile:

✅ Business Name: Cutting Edge Artificial Grass
✅ Address: Station Yard, Station Row, Drybridge, Irvine, North Ayrshire, KA11 5BZ, UK
✅ Phone: 01294 688268
✅ Website: www.cuttingedgegrass.co.uk
✅ 5-Star Reviews: “Fantastic garden transformation! Highly recommend.”

---

4. Create High-Quality Content

Regularly updating your website with useful content boosts SEO and attracts more visitors.

Blog Ideas for Landscaping Websites:

“10 Garden Design Ideas for Small Spaces”

“How to Maintain an Artificial Grass Lawn”

“Best Plants for Low-Maintenance Gardens in the UK”

“Landscaping Trends for 2024”

Tips for Writing SEO-Friendly Blogs:

Use relevant keywords naturally

Write at least 800-1,500 words per blog for better ranking

Add images & videos (optimised for fast loading)

Include internal links to your services pages

---

5. Get Backlinks from Reputable Websites

Backlinks (links from other websites to yours) increase authority and improve Google rankings.

Ways to Get Quality Backlinks:

Partner with local businesses (garden centres, builders) and ask for links.

Submit guest posts to landscaping blogs or home improvement websites.

Get listed in directories like Yell, Checkatrade, and Houzz.

Encourage satisfied clients to link to your website when they share reviews or recommendations.

---

6. Use Social Media & Local Listings

Boost Traffic with Social Media

Share before-and-after photos of landscaping projects.

Post gardening tips and advice.

Engage with followers through comments and messages.

Run promotions and special offers.

Best Platforms for Landscapers:

Facebook & Instagram: Great for visuals and local advertising.

Pinterest: Showcases garden design ideas.

YouTube & TikTok: Share time-lapse videos of transformations.

Local Listings Help SEO

Make sure your business is listed on:
✅ Google My Business
✅ Bing Places for Business
✅ Yell, Trustpilot, and Checkatrade
✅ Local council directories

---

7. Encourage Customer Reviews

Positive reviews boost credibility and rankings on Google.

How to Get More Reviews:

Ask happy clients to leave a Google review.

Offer small discounts or incentives for feedback.

Send a follow-up email after completing a job with a direct review link.

Example Review Request:
"Thank you for choosing GreenScape Landscaping! We’d love to hear your feedback. Please leave us a review here: [Google Review Link]."

---

8. Track Your Progress & Improve

SEO is an ongoing process. Regularly track your website’s performance and make improvements.

Best Free SEO Tools:

Google Analytics – Track visitors, page views, and traffic sources.

Google Search Console – Check for website errors and keyword performance.

Ubersuggest / Ahrefs – Monitor backlinks and keyword rankings.
