Harpist Ruth Wall was due to tour her seasonal repertoire this month, but all dates were cancelled due to the pandemic, so she will perform an informal festive concert online from her kitchen in Sennen instead on Thursday, December 17. All the music was arranged by Ruthโ€™s husband, composer Graham Fitkin, for her three harps: Concert harp, buzzing Renaissance bray harp and the bell-like Gaelic wire-strung harp. Expect carols both familiar and lesser-known, a festive Iranian tune, a Ukrainian new year song and a little Handel. The concert will be available from 7pm and will remain available for 48 hours. Tickets cost ยฃ7.50 - book at www.fitkin.com and receive details and an access code on the day of the concert. Enjoy with a festive drink and a mince pie.

Tomorrow marks the 174th anniversary of the worst mining disaster in Cornwall's history - and it happened right on our doorstep.

East Wheal Rose Mine will be a familiar site to many, as the engine house, one of the shafts and chimney sit in the centre of Lappa Valley.

On the 9th July, heavy rainfall filled the mine that was being worked between 100 fathoms (183m) and 50 fathoms (91.5m) level below ground.

At the time of the accident, upwards of 200 local men were working underground of whom 39 lost their lives. Some of those who died were as young as 15.

May they all rest in peace.
