Costume breakdown is the hidden art you’ve seen in every blockbuster 👀 
Under the expert guidance of Rebecca Jo Lesley (Napoleon, Black Widow, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy), our Makeup, Hair, Costume & SFX cohort took on transforming pristine garments into character-driven pieces inspired by iconic films.

🧵 Dyeing & colour correction 🎨 Painting, distressing & ageing 📖 Script analysis & character breakdown 🩸 Creating wear, tear, blood, dirt & story-driven details

…every student got hands-on with one of the most creative crafts in the industry.
We LOVE seeing their talent come to life — and this is only the beginning. 💥

It’s been Wicked’s opening weekend — and the UK film industry is officially glowing green 💚🌪️

Much of this huge production was filmed right here on home ground, brought to life by the incredible talent and craftsmanship of UK crews.

It’s a proud moment for the artists, makers and departments who built this world (including a few familiar CMS faces 👀).

Seeing our people help shape projects like this — and bringing those real skills and techniques back into the classroom — is exactly why we exist.

🔥🍽️ Dinner Party… with a side of cinematic tension.

Our Directing & Cinematography students just tackled their first major exercise: filming the American Beauty dinner scene — a perfect test of emotion, blocking, camera decisions and collaboration.

Guided by industry pros Andrew Delaney, Vivien Calleja, Richard Elson & Terry Bamber, they explored:
🎥 Camera techniques
🛣️ Depth of field & exposure
🎨 Colour temperature
💡 Lighting setups
🎬 Storytelling through shot choice
📏 The 180° rule (and when to break it)

It’s all hands-on, all practical, all industry-led.And we couldn’t be prouder of what they’re already creating.

Welda is coming to CMS!

Great skin is the foundation of all makeups, and so on Tuesday 25th November we’re stripping it right back and learning from the best with Welda. Welcome to an evening of discovery, networking, drinks (and perhaps some goodies!)

✨ Who can attend? Anyone with at least 2 film or TV credits (shorts count!) You don’t need to have studied at CMS — this is open to all working industry pros. Current CMS students are welcome too.
