Hadean Press Publisher of academic and independent scholarship in the areas of folklore, folk magic, & spellbooks We are now based in the West Yorkshire Pennines.

Hadean Press was established in 2008 in West Yorkshire, UK, at the beginning of the solar year by Dis Albion and Erzebet Barthold, now the managing director of Hadean Press Limited, a UK company formed in July 2019. Erzebet holds all other official roles at Hadean Press: editor-in-chief, book design, sales, marketing, etc. She is also a book binder who occasionally releases her limited editions through Hadean Press. We produce books, journals and pamphlets in standard and limited editions. Dis and Erzebet also own and operate Papaveria Press, a small press dealing in mythic prose, poetry, and fairy tales.

Cyprianus is the name of an infamous grimoire in Scandinavian folk magic and a byword for sorcery. In recent years, dozens of Cyprianus books have been translated into English, revealing a rich array of folk-magical operations similar to those found in the Iberian Cyprian tradition. Missing from this emergent literature, however, is the place of folklore.

Cyprianus: St. Cyprian and the Black Book in Scandinavian Folklore provides a translation of Danish legends relating to the Cyprianus, originally collected in the second half of the nineteenth century by the folklorist Evald Tang Kristensen. Most of these legends refer to the Cyprianus as a book – its powers, familiar spirits and those persons bold (and sometimes foolish) enough to read from its pages – while others recount the exploits of its eponymous author, a mysterious figure who, in Scandinavian lore, takes on different guises and genders. Still others reveal methods for outsmarting the Devil or banishing him entirely.

Together, the legends offer a perspective on the Cyprianus that helps contemporary readers understand the cultural and folk-magical context of this fabled grimoire.

Drawing on his work from over four decades of grimoire conjuration and the forthcoming Claves Ars Goetia, David Rankine provides a comprehensive course in conjuring the spirits of the Ars Goetia. With extensive research from numerous other grimoires, he has expanded the information in the spirit catalogue, making the choice of Goetic spirit and the range of their powers much clearer. Additionally, the conjuration sequence has been revised to counter the flaws built into the Ars Goetia by relying on Weyer´s Pseudomonarchia Daemonum as its base.

The course will run on six consecutive Sundays from 7-9pm GMT from 1 November 2026 to 6 December 2026. Recordings of all the sessions will remain available afterwards for course attendees. There will also be an ongoing private Facebrook group for attendees.

This is a practical work, combining earlier texts to provide a working manual which would influence subsequent works like the Grimorium Verum and Grand Grimoire. Heavily footnoted and with gorgeous colour illustrations, this work is essential reading for practitioners and students of the grimoire tradition.

The value of a grimoire manuscript may be seen in what it continues from the past, and what it adds from its unique synergy of material. Sitting firmly in the Solomonic stream of grimoires, The Magical Art (Welcome MS 983) is an early eighteenth-century French text which includes material from the Heptameron and the Key of Solomon, along with unique material not found elsewhere. The inclusion of the first known examples of material from the Grimorium Verum, one of the most popularly worked grimoires of today, further adds to the significance of this work.

The influence of Christian rather than Jewish Kabbalah stands out as a unique feature, as seen in the use of the Pentagrammaton and the psalm annotations of the German polymath Athanasius Kircher (creator of the modern Tree of Life image). Another significant figure referenced in this grimoire is the French alchemist and magician Arnaldus de Villa Nova. Among the numerous spirits listed is a curious national ‘Spirit of France’, and the archangel Uriel is also found in an operation of onimancy (skrying on the fingernail), harking back to the divinations of the ancient world.

The Magical Art combines earlier texts to provide a working manual which influenced subsequent works like the Grimorium Verum and Grand Grimoire. This work is essential reading for practitioners and students of the grimoire tradition.

Pre-orders (hardcover) are open for Nordic Witchcraft: An exploration of wisdom, lore and power in the Swedish year walk ritual by Carl Nordblom, with cover artwork by David Herrerias. Carl's first book with us, Historiola: The Power of Narrative Charms, demonstrated the practice of narrative charms, equipping the reader with everything needed to incorporate or enhance their use in personal practice. Now, he invites us to join him on the årsgång, the Swedish year walk ritual.

This is a work that seeks to present the material from a perspective grounded in practical, emic understanding – one that moves beyond purely theoretical and rigid conceptual modalities to breathe new life into the ancestral spiritual practices of the North.

We will be producing a sewn, jacketed hardcover with foil stamping on front and spine, and later a paperback and epub edition. This book is currently being indexed and will go the printer at the end of September.

Goetic Evocation was the first workbook ever specifically designed to be used in conjunction with the popular grimoire known as the Goetia, which is the first book of The Lesser Key of Solomon. It is an efficient working manual for the ritual magician who is interested in properly practicing the system outlined in the Goetia.

Steve Savedow provides detailed instructions for the necessary preparations, as well as the actual performance of the evocations, plus thorough dissections of every portion of the Goetia and a complete explanation of the hierarchy of the Goetic spirits.
Also included are transcripts from the author’s personal records documenting nine evocations that were performed between the years of 1985 and 1987 (which feature a lengthy interrogation of the spirit Bim), and the results of his extensive experimentation.
