***Christmas Meal Appeal***
Poor Luna doesn’t look too impressed to be in kennels this Christmas, and that’s no surprise. This lovely girl spent months stuck in boarding kennels before finally being relinquished to our care for rehoming very recently. It’s been a very long time since she felt the love and stability of her own home and people.
Whilst she arrived at Kapellan too late for us to give Luna the home she really wants for Christmas, you can give her and other dogs in shelter a special dinner and a present to unwrap on Christmas morning by donating £5 to our Christmas Meal Appeal. Just click ‘Donate’ to brighten Luna’s day. Thank you!

🥂🎉WIN: A Dales Butchers Christmas meat hamper worth £100 🎉🥂

What meats will you be serving your family and friends on Christmas Day?

For many the answer will be, “Whatever meat looks ok in the plastic that I can pick up from the supermarket”.

There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s perfectly edible - but why would you serve generic factory meat when you could be serving hand prepared top quality local meat from a proper butcher?

Dales Butchers in Kirkby Lonsdale is one of the only butchers in the area that hand pick and buy the animals they use from local farms with high welfare standards that really care about their animals, then Dales butcher them by hand and will even give you advice on how to cook it to perfection.

🎄🎄🎄If you only eat local, hand prepared meat once a year do it at Christmas.🎄🎄🎄

Why wouldn’t you?

🤔 It’s more expensive? NOPE because the meat doesn’t have to be packaged, filled with preservatives and transported from heaven knows where then sold for profit in the supermarket, the cost is more or less the same

🤔 Because I don’t have the time or inclination to go get it? Dales deliver all over South Cumbria not by post, but the butcher delivers it to you. Check out their website.

One lucky winner will have to go and pick their meat up from the shop because they will WIN a £100 meat hamper in our annual Lake District Radio / Dales Butchers competition.

Here is what you will win:

🦃2.5kg Rolled Turkey Breast

🐖 1.5kg Ham Joint

🌭 500grms Pork Sausages

🐷 500grms Pigs in Blankets

🥓 500grms back bacon

🍚 500grms stuffing (sage & Onion or Cranberry & Apple)

🥧 large pork pie ( 1lb )

People go on about the lack of small local businesses – well this is your opportunity to support the local economy whilst treating your family to proper, healthy meat at the most important meal of the year!

Winning couldn’t be easier just answer this easy question:

Where is Dales Butchers located?

A) Wigton
B) Appleby
C) Kirkby Lonsdale
D) Cleethorpes

Just answer below and tag someone you know who deserves the very best of the best this Christmas.

The competition closes at midnight on Friday 19th December and you must go and pick your hamper up before they close at 12.30pm on Christmas Eve.

Good luck and remember you get an extra entry if you like and share this post.

Warning ⚠️ don’t let scammers ruin your Christmas if you receive a message saying you’ve won and it isnt the morning of 22nd December its not us and you haven’t won. Also Lake District Radio would NEVER ask you for payment details in order to collect or claim a prize.

News Release

Agencies declare themselves on major incident standby ahead of prolonged heavy rainfall

Agencies across Cumbria have this afternoon (13 December) declared themselves on standby for a major incident ahead of heavy and persistent rainfall forecast across Cumbria.

The Met Office currently have an amber warning of rain in place between 6am on Sunday and 6pm on Monday for a section of the county, predominantly over the central and Western Lake District area and also West Cumbria. There is also a yellow warning of rain covering the entire county in place between 6pm today and 6pm on Monday.

The current forecast is likely to lead to difficult driving conditions, wider travel disruption, possible power outages and potential flooding of homes and businesses.

Residents are asked to:

Consider their travel plans, allowing extra time for journeys and to determine whether travel is necessary during adverse conditions. If you must travel during this time do so with caution – pack your car with essentials, plan your route, and listen to travel updates.
Speak to vulnerable relatives, friends, and neighbours – advise them and ensure they are prepared in case of power outages.
Do not drive through flood water if coming across flooding – take an alternative route.
Check your torch batteries, radio and try to ensure phones are charged up in advance of the worst-affected times.
Chief Superintendent Carl Patrick, of Cumbria Constabulary, is chairing the Local Resilience Forum response.

He said: “The public can be reassured that our multi-agency response to what may occur over the next few days is underway.

“Emergency services and other partners including the Environment Agency, Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council are doing all they can to ensure our county is prepared for the potential impacts and ensure people are safe.

“At this early stage, we would ask people to ensure they are prepared should power outages occur and to check on vulnerable relatives, friends, or neighbours ahead of the peak of the prolonged heavy rainfall which is forecast. We are also encouraging people to consider their travel plans for the next few days and decide whether such plans are necessary as road conditions will be challenging.”

Andy Brown, Environment Agency Area Duty Manager, said: “Heavy, persistent rainfall means significant river and surface water flooding impacts are probable in Cumbria from Saturday evening into Monday.

“Environment Agency teams are out on the ground and will support local authorities in responding to surface water flooding. We urge people not to drive though flood water – it is often deeper than it looks and just 30cm of flowing water is enough to float your car.

“If you are flooded, call 999 if in immediate danger and follow advice from emergency services.”

If you are experiencing any weather-related issue, a list of partner agency contact details can be found here: Weather safety | Cumbria Police.

Keep an eye on the latest flood updates on the Environment Agency’s website: Flood alerts and warnings - GOV.UK. You can also call their Floodline for advice - 0345 988 1188.

Keep up to date with the weather at: Weather and climate change - Met Office.

Lake District Radio

With the sad loss of our local radio station to commercial corporations, we are now running a local community based radio station: ‘Lake District Radio’. The station will create Radio for the local people of Westmorland, Cumbria and the Lake District. We will deliver Local News and Weather, Local topics of interest, promote Local Business, Promote Local Charities and Causes, broadcast info on local events and all the things that matter to you as locals. This won’t happen over night but we’re well under way, though we will need support from our local communities, so get involved in whatever way you can! Let’s make our radio airwaves local again!! Like Our Page to help support your brand new local station.

Lake District Radio (name voted by the community) is a non profit project aimed at filling the void due to the loss of other local radio stations. Founder; Seb Crawford James, and an amazing team of people and fantastic members of the local community have banded together to pursue this into the reality you experience today.

What we hope to achieve and are achieving:

  • Local Government Funding to fund the station
