CHRISTIAN LEADER JEFF LUCAS REJOINS SORTED MAGAZINE TO SUPPORT DIGITAL REVIVAL - 🙏
Sorted magazine has welcomed back long-time contributor Jeff Lucas (pictured) as it repositions itself as a fully digital publication, following the death of founding editor Steve Legg in September 2024.
Lucas, an internationally respected Christian author, speaker and broadcaster, previously penned the popular Lucas Aid column during the magazine’s print era. His return was announced by digital editor Val Fraser as part of Sorted’s growing “Digital Talent Pool”.
“I’m so delighted that Val is keeping Steve Legg’s vision alive with a digital version of Sorted magazine,” said Lucas. “In its original magazine format, I believe that Sorted was the very best Christian men’s magazine in the world... I’m totally confident that Val is going to continue the commitment to creativity and excellence which has been the hallmark of Sorted."
First launched in 2007 by Son Christian Media, Sorted gained recognition as a print magazine that combined Christian values with lifestyle content, celebrity interviews, and spiritual insight. After the deaths of Legg and fellow director Hugh Southon, the future of the publication was unclear. But under new leadership and a partial shift to Substack, Sorted has entered a new chapter.
“We’re no longer constrained by deadlines or postal routes - we can respond to the real-time needs and questions of a global audience,” said Pastor Duncan Williams, former director and co-owner of Son Christian Media. “This is not a retreat from print. It’s a necessary and exciting step forward.”
Fraser reports encouraging growth since the move online, with new readers coming from 24 countries and 14 U.S. states. “I confess to being apprehensive about whether it would take off,” she said. “I needn’t have worried at all… So many of you have come over to Substack and seem perfectly happy to read the magazine on your digital device.”
Williams believes Sorted is reaching a demographic often overlooked by traditional Christian media. “What we’re seeing now is a surge of engagement from men who are searching - for purpose, for faith, for something grounded,” he said.
That pastoral heart remains central to the magazine’s mission. “Sorted has always spoken to men who might struggle with mental health, self-worth, or addiction,” Williams said. “These are deep challenges, and our goal is to walk alongside our readers with hope, honesty and encouragement. We’re here to promote character, not celebrity - and to remind men that they were made for more than the world often tells them.”
In a cultural climate shaped by unhelpful male role models and toxic online content, Williams sees Sorted as offering something radically different. “Young people today are exposed to damaging figures and narratives,” he said. “Sorted exists to promote integrity, mental wellness, and healthy relationships with self, God, and others.”
There are hopes that TV adventurer Bear Grylls - a past columnist and early supporter - may also return to Sorted’s digital pages. “Bear Grylls actively endorsed both the Alpha groups and Sorted magazine, and his positive influence among readers seeking a contemporary and practical approach to Christianity shouldn’t be underestimated,” Williams said.
While Sorted has featured interviews with household names like Gary Oldman, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Denzel Washington, the emphasis has always remained on the values behind the stories.
The new online platform prioritises clarity and accessibility. Drawing inspiration from outlets like Christian Today, Williams said: “Today’s readers want clarity and depth without the clutter. The beta test response so far has been incredibly encouraging.”
Looking ahead, Sorted is exploring new partnerships. Williams has initiated discussions with Premier Christian Media, publisher of Woman Alive!, about creating a joint Christian publishing hub. “Bringing these voices together would create a uniquely powerful Christian media presence here in the UK,” he said.
Son Christian Media, now led by Steve Legg’s widow and executor Rebekah Legg, also previously launched the Christian tabloid The Son and published several books by Christian authors. These include Faith in Film by Rev Andy Godfrey, Notes from the North End of Nowhere by Val Fraser, and The Last Laugh, Steve Legg’s final book - all still available through Amazon and Christian bookstores nationwide.
“It’s been a time of deep reflection and resilience,” said Williams, “but also one of vision. The online space gives us tools and reach we simply didn’t have before. With faith and perseverance, we’ll keep building - not just a magazine, but a ministry that speaks to where people are right now.”
