Colour is fundamental in design as it conveys messages, evokes emotion and can influence perceptions.

There are two colour models used in design: RGB and CMYK.

But why does this matter? 🧐

Colours can look very different on screen vs in print. That’s why it’s important to convert RGB files to CMYK before sending them to print. So your colours come out just right.

Our studio team knows exactly how to handle this. With decades of experience and the technical know-how, we make sure your designs always look their best, no matter the format!

To continue our series in design tips… this week we’re diving into a crucial element for stunning print results: DPI (Dots Per Inch)! 🔴🔵⚪️

We like to think of DPI as ‘pixels for print’.

It’s all about how much detail your image holds.

Low DIP = Blurry Print
High DPI = Crisp Print

For beautiful, sharp prints (like brochures, flyers, books, or magazines) we typically recommend images are at 300 DPI at the final print size. Images for screens (like websites or social media) are usually 72 DPI.

When you send us your design, we will always do a pre check to ensure your images have the right resolution for an excellent print result. ✅

Here at Crest we have been helping people to achieve great looking publications since 1993. We pride ourselves on being a very friendly team, who will go that extra mile to ensure that our customers are happy.

Our core business initially specialised in working with British military establishments creating stylish journals for individual regiments, corps and training units. Whilst we still do a huge amount of army literature, we have also broadened our horizons and produce all manner of publications.

Our sectors include everything from military, education, horticultural, local history and more. We now publish a variety of journals, booklets, magazines, and even interactive online copies.
