Monday and after a wild & dark weekend, today’s update from SSE is that restoring the power is taking longer than they initially thought but hope to have us re connected by 8pm on Wednesday evening, 8th October.
Good news is that Fika is open today (on their day off) and that Colin at Mingary castle has made individual hot meals that he is giving away to our local community free of charge. Turn up and collect them from 4pm. They are being kept hot in Woodys wagon at Mingary. We hope everyone is warm enough, your torch batteries still have charge and you have a gas hob or means to make yourself a cup of tea x

If you need to keep updated, the best place is from Beckah at Kilchoan Community Centre they know all the going’s on 🧐 and fresh off the press. Our info tends to be more random and often after the event 🥴😂 when we leave our phone somewhere and find it the next day in the fridge.

Happy Birthday Caitlin 🥰 31 today.
We are a bit slow in the Highlands at getting round to things, as an incomer once told us ‘only the rivers rush’, they might be right, this has taken me a full year! The photos of Caitlins 30th birthday party in Kilchoan community centre in Sept 2025 appears on my phone, here they are…. Better late than never 😁Caitlin left Kilchoan for Skye to the Gaelic Uni about 12 years ago. She had an arty year in Glaschu again around our own people so more Gaels, She made great friends from all over the Gàidhealtachd, Friends for life. She decided her 30th would be as good a time as any to get everyone together and it certainly did! She invited them and they came from far and wide and just about every Island was represented! Sept 2024 in Kilchoan is a great place for a big ceilidh. 🎉 💃 🕺🏻 🥳 🎈 We give out a list of accommodation providers and everyone booked their own. So many great Pods, Liz has her Tiny home, volcano cabins, ca’marys house and Oregon’s cabin, Swordale bunkhouse, Jacks ranch is a great pad, kinky Cottage, Achosnich chalet, Mùin shepherds hut give a lovely warm welcome to a single lady from Caitlin’s work🥰 Aunty Iona’s & Gus holiday cottage and house was filled with all the family, coming out the seems 😂
In fact there are so many other great self catering accommodation that I wish I hadn’t started listing them 🥴 if you are thinking of having a big celebration in Kilchoan, just do it! Book the hall. There were about 180 folk there, about 80% of them required to find accommodation, it was then an open invitation in the village. I’m going to have missed out somewhere, I’m sorry 🥴 There were also people home staying with their families , parents and friends. Kilchoan hotel of course and they were very accommodating to all the ceilidhing and all the instruments and the Gaelic singing, ceilidhs and craic all weekend. 💃 🥃 🎶 🍺 🎵 🍻 🎉 🥃 It would not have worked so well without the Community mini bus and Beckahs husband Richard doing the Taxi home in the bus to swordale, Portuairk, Achnaha and everywhere in between, he could have done with a good collie dog to round them up, Patience of a saint ☺️ 🙏
Also the local seafood from The Tobermory Fish Co.Ltd was outstanding. You order your selection of Finger food ready to go! You just open the box and fold it over. Tremendous. A big thank you once again to everyone who came to Ceilidh the weekend away, I don’t have photos of lots of you, Beckah and Richard and Kilchoan hall committee and all the pals who helped decorate and of course clear up ☺️ 🥰 Moran Taing 😍

Tinkerbell 🥰 and her friend enjoyed being Ardnamurchan Distillery at the weekend. .
What a great day out they had with Calum and Roxana, there were a few drams on the go!
Trufo 🐾 raised her glass 🥃 ‘Slàinte’
Tinkerbell 🐾 raised her glass and replied ‘Sláinte mhor’ 🥃
Trufo, the Spanish water dog asked Tinkerbell why she had replied with ‘Slainte mhor’. 🥃 Tinkerbell 🐾 explained that during the Jacobite uprisings, it was a secret code between the people of the Gàidhealtachd to show you were a supporter of Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Sláinte Mhor = a’mhorag.
