Walked past this place a thousand times. Never once went inside. That changed this week.
I was invited by Chris Zanetti and Dan Fryer for a tour of on King Edward Street, ahead of their appearance on Shifting Views with Willis, and honestly, I wasn’t prepared for what was behind that door.
It’s like the Tardis.
That inconspicuous shop front opens into a 600-seat auditorium, event spaces, a café, a foodbank, homeless support facilities and so much more. Run by , every penny of revenue goes straight back into supporting the city’s most vulnerable; Life College courses for the long-term unemployed, refugee support, mental health services, homeless drop-ins. The list goes on.
While I was there the place was alive, a dance and fashion event in full swing, support teams doing their thing, people everywhere. It was buzzing.
They call it “a living room for the community.” After seeing it for myself, I’d say that’s spot on.
I’ll be sitting down with Chris and Dan on the podcast to talk about why places like this matter, and why the link between organisations like Jubilee Central and the wider business community is so important for Hull’s future.
Podcast coming soon. In the meantime, go see it. Grab a coffee. Have a look around. It’s a hidden gem doing genuinely important work.
