Some brilliant advice here from musician and tutor Lewis Marrow, which he has permitted us to share.
Here is Lewis’s advice:
"No one can teach you how to write a song. That is not how creativity works.
However, what we can do is look at how respected and beloved artists and practitioners approach songwriting, then consider how we can use and adapt their methods in our own creative practice.
Remember no one can write a song like you can. No one has had your life experiences, had the same thoughts about the world or, more importantly, made the same mistakes, which make the best songs, in my opinion. Allow yourself to be a bad writer before making yourself a good writer. The only audience you should cater to is yourself”
Here is a booklet Lewis gives to students as part of his RonnoRecords songwriting upskilling sessions at We hope you find it useful.
