Community Theatre and the May Geslins bring their new show called Dear Hearts and Gentle People to Alexandra Hall in Hedon on Saturday 19th September.
Dear Hearts and Gentle People is set in a fictional terrace in East Hull from 1945 to 1951 and tells the story of a set of neighbours and friends as they cope with life after World War 2. They have to come to terms with returning soldiers who are changed by conflict, the effects of rationing and the birth of the NHS and Welfare State as Hull recovers and re-builds after the war.

Based on real life accounts and archival records from Hull and Holderness, the story is told with pathos and humour and includes songs from the period which are woven in to set the scene.

The show starts at 2pm prompt and entry is free and un-ticketed.

City Council has confirmed that improvement works to two roundabouts in Kingswood (actually Sutton Park) will continue early into next year as part of the authority’s proactive plan to futureproof the network in the area. Ennerdale (north) will re-open to southbound traffic, from 5pm on Friday 18 September, following the completion of works by CityFibre to install and switch on new fibre optic cable. Hessle-based contractor, Ltd, was appointed to undertake highway capacity works on Ennerdale Leisure Centre and Wawne Road / Bude Road roundabouts earlier this year. Initially, the council anticipated that this work would be complete by the end of this year. However, due to circumstances outside the council’s control, a combination of delays to utility diversion works and additional utility requirements has contributed to a cumulative impact on the construction schedule.
The council has decided to use this delay to undertake more extensive pavement reconstruction works, particularly at the Wawne Road / roundabout, to reduce the need for future works and disruption, as well as additional enhancements to the area’s drainage systems to ensure they can cope with heavier rainfall events, which are becoming more common.

: Once described as the “last surviving civilian bomb‑damaged building” in the UK, the National Picture Theatre still bears the historic scars of the 1941 raid. Now, 85 years after that fateful night and thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Hull City Council, The UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the National Civilian World War II Memorial Trust (NCWW2MT), the Grade II listed building has been given a new lease of life. The reopening marks the first time the former cinema will be brought back to use since the bombing. The open space where the auditorium once stood, originally seating 1,050 people with a balcony, has been transformed into a flexible education and community events space. It will also serve as place of reflection, enabling visitors to learn about the experiences of Hull civilians during the Second World War.
The project has long been championed by the National Civilian World War II Memorial Trust, which has tirelessly campaigned to preserve the site and share the stories of those who endured the Blitz in Hull - then Britain’s second most bombed city.

Electric trains could be serving Hull’s Paragon Station in 2034 after £1bn of investment in new trains was announced by the Department for Transport (DfT).
In a major breakthrough for campaigners, the city was included on the list of destinations and routes in the North to benefit from a new fleet of 29 battery-electric TransPennine Express trains, after being left out of a planned £45bn upgrade of northern railways announced by Keir Starmer’s government in January.
