Half term plot twist! 💙

Over the last six months something’s shifted for us. A huge proportion of our in-store sales now comes from school kids…pizzas, sausage rolls, milkshakes, ice creams, drinks etc.

When half term arrives…so does the quiet. Owning a small business involves recognising the patterns and adapting to protect the bottom line. It is about learning your rhythms, not fighting against them.

So we’ll be closed in store for most of this week, with a couple of Pop Up sessions which I’ll share once confirmed 👀

BUT, don't panic...the Cake Shed will be stocked all week with fresh bakes 🍰

And honestly? The Cake Shed really has been such a game changer for us!

Evenings and weekends are so busy and it's great hearing everyone's reactions! Yesterday a lovely family saw it for the first time and came back later on and stocked up on goodies for their visit. Then I was chatting away through the camera with a local about how his dog is doing whilst he paid online for a late night treat!

We really appreciate everyone's support and honesty 😘

I’m thinking of doing a Fresh Cream Pop Up on Friday...because half term still deserves Vanilla Slices! Will confirm asap! 💙

I smashed a mirror on Christmas Eve 😳

Seven years of bad luck apparently!

So when Friday 13th rolled round again this year… I wasn’t exactly panicking...even if there are any ladders, inside umbrellas or black cats about!

If I’ve already signed up for seven years of doom because of one clumsy festive moment, what’s one more “unlucky” day?

The thing is… we’ve actually had a really positive start to the year;
💙 The Cake Shed is smashing it
💙 Teen Nights are busy as always
💙 Lunchtimes are a grab n go blast
..and none of that has required luck!

It's involved working hard, being consistent and leaning in to what is doing well (and dropping what isn't!)

BUT there's so much more opportunity for this space!

Our pizzas are hand stretched, topped and baked fresh daily for lunch and kept (briefly!) in our hot hold display...ready when you are!

Sometimes the quiet moments hit hardest 💙

I was lying in bed this morning, in my PJs, working away on something behind the scenes…

When the Cake Shed camera pinged on my phone. Two people popped by, chose some treats and left smiling.

And it honestly stopped me in my tracks (ok, ok...if I'm brutally honest, I had a little cry 🙈)

What started as a little idea…something we hoped might work…has quietly become part of people’s day.

That doesn’t happen without trust, kindness and support from this community.

So this is just a BIG thank you post!
For using the shed.
For being honest.
For telling your friends.
For supporting small, local ideas 🥰

It really does mean more than you know 💙

Ever dreamed of running a coffee shop? ☕✨

Close your eyes for a second…

The smell of fresh coffee first thing in the morning...

The quiet hum before the rush...

The clink of cups, the hiss of steam, regulars chatting like old friends...

Your dream. Your menu. Your future.

If owning a daytime coffee shop has always been your dream but fear has kept it tucked away… not knowing where to begin, worrying about the cost of starting from scratch and quietly wondering if someone like you could really make it work… this might be your sign 💙

And to our followers, don’t panic… Desserts & Co aren’t going anywhere!!!

But during the day, there’s so much untapped potential in this building.

When we opened last year, it was never my intention to be working here full time. It also wasn’t the plan to offer a full savoury breakfast and lunch menu.

But the demand is clearly there… and sharing this space with the right person feels like the most positive way to let that side of the business grow.

We’re looking for someone who would love to run a breakfast and lunch service here as their own business.

Fully independent. Fully yours.

Sharing this space would allow me to focus on the parts of the business I love most... Teen Nights, Dessert Nights and a few ideas I’ve never quite had the chance to bring to life.

You’d have full use of all the equipment, an established space people already know and love, existing footfall and community goodwill plus support (and vanilla slices 👀) from us if you want it… or space if you don’t 🤷‍♀️

We’re ideally looking for someone already living in Kingussie or very close by with a real passion for great food and drink and a strong community mindset.

For us, sharing this space with the right person means we get to build Desserts & Co in the direction that lights us up… while watching someone else build something they’ve always dreamed of 🥰

My little munchkin isn't doing so well today 😔 Kendal hasn't been right for a couple of days and is very unsettled today...

My little munchkin isn't doing so well today 😔

Kendal hasn't been right for a couple of days and is very unsettled today. I've been on the phone to the vets and waiting for a call back.

We know that this is his last chapter and he is still having some good days...we even made it up Cairngorm Mountain last week for him to enjoy some bonus snow!

But, today isn't one of those days...

We will be a little late opening and closing after lunch as I'm feeling a little fragile today 🙈

If you're craving a treat, the Cake Shed is ready and waiting for you...we've already had a couple of visits to it this morning which is so amazing 🥰

Hopefully myself and Kendal will be bouncing back tomorrow on top form 🤞
