Orkney Sub-Aqua Club was formed on Sunday 25th May 1969, which means our club has been going for 55 years, (or 668 months or 2,906 weeks or 20,345 days or 488,298 hours or 29,297,922 minutes or 1,757,875,321 seconds)!!
There's been a lot of diving and general adventuring going on since then and we are fortunate to have some incredibly knowledgeable, experienced and inspiring members who have helped create the club we enjoy today.
So, the plan is that once a week we'll be sharing a feature post.
There are a few categories we'll be exploring, which include but are not limited to:
Love the Rust : Highlighting wrecks around greater Orkney that we have dived or plan to dive, including their history. This will include many of the lesser known sites that deserve some appreciation.
Creature Feature : Looking at interesting creatures, (we won't forget the plants!) we find in our waters, including superb photographs and information from local experts (several who are members of OSAC), and finding out more about conservation efforts and opportunities to become involved.
Way Back When : We have a long, recorded history thanks to our past and present members, and in that time the club has been involved in some memorable diving and non-diving adventures. Photos, videos, newspaper articles and club archives all tell the story which we hope the members, friends and supporters will find interesting and even inspiring.
So if you have some old photos and stories about the club that you'd like to share, please drop us a message. Alternatively, members are more than welcome to post directly onto the group FB page. And as ever, suggestions and comments are always appreciated.
Many thanks to Lindsay Reid ( #1) and Lee Spence ( #2&3) for the photos.
