There is a fundraising head-shave in Tesco's foyer today at half past three. Wendy Wolmarans is undergoing treatment for cancer, and her husband Mark is shaving his head, beard and moustache and their friend Ruth Owen is shaving her head. They are raising awareness and funds for CLAN Orkney and Macmillan - and there will be donation buckets there.

Orkney SANDS – the Baby Loss charity – is holding a Service at the King Street Halls at half past six today to mark the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week, and will be lighting candles at seven o’ clock to join the international wave of light.

Costa SWI have their Annual Business Meeting tonight at half past seven – and the competitions are 4 programme and competition ideas.

A Bowls and Games Night is held in Harray Community Centre from seven till nine on Wednesdays.

And there’s Indoor Bowls in the Dounby School at seven o’ clock, and Bowling in the Orphir Hall at half past seven.

Borealis Bells has a Handbell practice at half past seven in the Sandwick Hall.

This morning will be overcast with the chance of occasional drizzle. In the afternoon, cloud could break up for a time to reveal a few bright spells. Maximum temperatures of 14 Celsius, 57 Fahrenheit. Westerly to north-westerly winds at force 3 to 4, up to force 5 in the far north. Moderate winds to the west and the north, and slight seas to the east.

Tonight will turn cloudy again, along with patchy light rain and drizzle moving in from the north during the early hours. Lows of 10 Celsius, 50 Fahrenheit. Westerly to north-westerly winds, force 3 to 4 for most areas but reaching force 5 in the far north. Moderate seas to the north and the west, otherwise slight seas.

Tomorrow morning will see more in the way of cloud and patchy light rain. In the afternoon, it will become dry, and a few sunny spells will develop. Temperatures will reach 12 Celsius, 54 Fahrenheit. North-westerly winds at force 3 to 4. Moderate seas to the west and the north; slight seas elsewhere.

Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday are expected to be largely dry with a mix of bright spells and cloudy intervals.

There’s Carpet Bowls tonight in the Birsay Hall between seven o’ clock and nine.

Orphir Badminton is also on Mondays with all abilities to play at the Picky Centre from seven till half past eight.

The Dementia Friendly Orkney Singing Group meets at the Life Centre at two o’ clock.

The Men’s Hub is on at Age Scotland Orkney from one till half past two.

RSPB Orkney has a Guide in the Hide session at The Loons this morning between ten o’ clock and one.

There’s An Evening with author Lin Anderson coming up the MORNS night in Stromness Parish Kirk when she’ll speak about Dr Rhona Macleod and the Orkney Mysteries. Seats can be pre booked on Ticket Source under Orkney Arts Society.

St Andrews Senior Citizens meet today in St Andrews Community Centre for Soup and Sandwiches at one o’ clock.

And tonight St Andrews Senior Citizens are having a Quiz night with Margaret Thomson at half past seven also in St Andrews Community Centre. Teams of 4 are welcome for £12 and book with Vera on 861 237 or Ida o 87 77 65.

Birsay Agricultural Societies 'Farmers Gathereen' is tonight at half past seven in the Birsay Hall with guest speaker Clive Wilkinson. £5 entry with supper provided.

The Blide Trust is hosting a Headspace Showcase tonight in the St Magnus Centre at seven o’ clock to mark World Mental Health Day. It’s a celebration of the creative talents and skills of Blide members, with entry by donation.

Suddenly Single – a support and friendship group for anyone who has lost a partner for any reason – gets together this evening in the Albert Hotel at half past seven. Ask for Suddenly Single at the bar of the Neuk. Anyone wanting to know how the group works can call Les Cowan on 07599 605 500.

The Orkney Cage Bird Society schedule meeting is at the Mart tonight at half past seven.

A Macmillan Coffee Morning will be held this Saturday at the Baha’I Centre at 3 Old Scapa Road between half past ten and half past two. There’ll be sandwiches, bakes, biscuits, snacks and hot and cold drinks – and a raffle.

The Friends of Hackland Kirk are having a Soup and Sandwich Lunch with Sales Table on Saturday from twelve noon till two o’ clock.

The re-scheduled Skulls and Dancing Skeletons Tour inside the Cathedral is this Saturday – meet the Curator inside the Cathedral at ten o’ clock – the tour is all indoors and costs £15.

And the re-arranged Car Wash at Westray Fire Station is on this Saturday from ten till twelve in aid of the Firefighters Charity. Tea, Coffee, Homebakes and Bacon Rolls will be served in The Hofn at the same time.

In Sanday a Candlelit Musical Evening with Maureen Cursiter and Tony Lee will be held in the Cross Kirk at quarter to eight. Entry is free with donations to Kirk funds.

Saturday night also sees a Dance to the Bigsy Whalps in the Finstown Hall in aid of Soma’s Light. A free Dance class will run from quarter past seven till quarter past eight, and the doors open at seven o’ clock – entry is £12 or £5 with supper included.

A Traditional Music Session led by Jennifer Wrigley and Laurence Wilson will be held at the Royal Hotel, Stromness from eight on Saturday, when all players and listeners are welcome.

While Orkney-born musician Merlyn Driver releases his debut solo album It Was Also Sometimes Daylight today, and he’ll be performing at the Pier Arts Centre on Saturday afternoon between three o’ clock and five and tickets are available via Ticket Source.

A Silent Vigil to call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, release of all hostages, unrestricted humanitarian aid and a just peace for all, will be held outside the Cathedral at one o’ clock on Saturday.

Alcoholics Anonymous has a support meeting at six on Saturday in the King Street Halls.

Social and Ceilidh Dancing is on from half past seven in the St Magnus Centre to dance or listen to live music from David Bowen. It’s £8 at the door.

Onto Sunday and the Kirk notices – Stromness Baptist Church meets in Stromness Town Hall at half past ten. Worship at St Mary’s is also at half ten, while Grace Church Orkney meets at half past eleven in the John Street Hall.

Stromness Church of Scotland is having a Harvest Thanksgiving Service at quarter past eleven with donations to the Food Bank and Women’s Aid, and a Soup, Bread and Cheese lunch afterwards.

There will be a Harvest Thanksgiving Service in the Orphir and Stenness Kirk at eleven on Sunday. Donations of dry and canned food will be donated to the food bank.

The Service at the Milestone Kirk in Dounby is at eleven o’ clock and it’s a Café Church. And Evie, Firth and Rendall Church has a Joint Service at eleven in Finstown.

There’s a United Service in Westray this Sunday at half past eleven in the Baptist Kirk. The service in Papay is at two o’ clock in St Ann’s.

Worship for Hoy and Walls is at Kirkside, Longhope at eleven o’ clock, and that’s also the time for the services at St Margaret’s in the ‘Hope and for the East Mainland Kirk.

In Kirkwall, Life Church Orkney will be meeting at the Life Centre at 11 this Sunday morning and they'd love you to join them for worship, teaching and fellowship.

The Salvation Army meets at half past ten in the St Magnus Centre and at half past four at the Life Centre.

Kirkwall Baptist Church also meets twice on Sundays – morning worship at quarter past eleven and a Café Church at seven.

The Catholic Church has Sunday Mass at half past five, and Mass on Mondays at quarter to twelve.

There’s Sunday worship at St Olaf’s Church at ten o’ clock, and the services in the East Kirk and the Peedie Kirk are at quarter past eleven.

The service in St Magnus Cathedral is also at 11.15 and is a Harvest Thanksgiving.

And a reminder that there’s a Flu Vaccine Clinic running today at The Balfour for 2 to 5 year olds registered with Skerryvore, Heilendi, Dounby and Daisy Villa. Today’s sessions from ten till twelve and between two and four, are for Surnames H to M. NEXT Friday the 17th is for surnames N to Z.

Flotta Harvest Home is next Friday 17th with Music by Murray Cowie Band. Tickets will be at the door. Note that there is NO LAUNCH available this year so visitors will need to find their own accommodation.
