๐Ÿ’‰ Next-generation sustained therapy for diabetic macular edema (DME).

The VERONA phase II trial of DURAVYUโ„ข (vorolanib intravitreal insert) demonstrated extended durability and vision gains after a single injection, with over 70% of patients supplement-free for 24 weeks.

Led by Christiana Dinah and Adrienne W. Scott, the study suggests that DURAVYUโ€™s novel TKI-based delivery could help reduce treatment burden while maintaining outcomes โ€” a major step forward for working-age adults living with DME.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Restoring sight where there was none.

In a landmark European clinical trial, researchers at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and partners across Europe have restored functional reading vision to patients who had completely lost sight due to dry AMD.

Using the PRIMA AI-powered retinal implant, 84% of participants were able to read letters, numbers, and words again โ€” through an eye once considered blind.

This first-of-its-kind device converts visual scenes into electrical signals that the brain interprets as sight, marking a major step toward functional vision restoration.

Danish data from ESCRS 2025 could reshape thinking around same-day cataract surgery. ๐Ÿ‘โ€๐Ÿ—จ

A new study from Silkeborg Regional Hospital and Aarhus University Hospital found that two-thirds of immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery (ISBCS) patients were able to function independently within 24 hours โ€” no at-home care required.

The research team, led by Marianne Bach Nielsen, Mia Vestergaard Bendixen, and Anders Hessellund, says the findings could help ease surgeon hesitation and reassure patients that same-day surgery is both safe and practical.

Many ophthalmology practices think they have a marketing problem โ€” but often, itโ€™s a capacity problem.

In this case study, Rod Solar shows how one clinic unlocked ยฃ60k a month in stalled revenue not by buying more ads, but by hiring one optometrist.

He breaks down the math, the hiring framework, and the 14-day sprint that turned a single hire into a major growth lever.

๐Ÿšจ AI for ophthalmology just got greener โ€“ and smarter.

RETFound-Green, developed by Miguel O. Bernabeu and Justin Engelmann at the University of Edinburgh, achieves state-of-the-art retinal image analysis with:
โœ… Half the data
โœ… 400ร— less computing power
โœ… Cost < $100 (vs > $10,000 for earlier models)

Even more impressive? It runs on modest hardware โ€“ even a smartphone โ€“ while outperforming its predecessors in diabetic retinopathy, ROP, and multi-class retinal disease tasks. ๐ŸŒ

๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ What happens when AI โ€œfixesโ€ what makes us unique?

This article tells the story of Olarewaju Uka, whose strabismus was digitally erased by ChatGPT in a professional headshot.

While it may seem like a harmless edit, it reveals deeper biases: AI that โ€œdenies difference.โ€

Authors Lucia Wilson and Olarewaju Uka, warn that AI toolsโ€”especially those handling medical imagesโ€”must not erase or misrepresent conditions like strabismus.
We must push for fair, inclusive AI in health care.
