The commute to work from Kintail to West Affric involves a mind boggling 185 mile round trip to go a mere 10 miles. It’s quicker to walk but not always practical when transporting tools and equipment. On the upside it is one of the most spectacular commutes particularly at this time of year, when it becomes more of an adventure.

This week I went out to see how Mark from Hitrak were getting on extending the footpath on the north side of Ben Attow. These guys are truly hardcore.πŸ’ͺ😊

Massive thanks to volunteer Barry Milton who has given us an enormous amount of his time and lots of hard work renovating our staff accommodation in recent weeks - painting, decorating and fitting a new kitchen. Thank you Barry πŸ˜‡πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

In September Richard Lockett and a group of local farmers recreated one of the traditional drove routes which was established through Kintail to the railheads in the east. Richard's film follows their three day adventure through the spectacular landscape of Kintail and Glen Affric.

It was great to have a big group of volunteers back at West Affric recently - we were out for 7 days working hard to maintain the footpaths of West Affric for the benefit of visitors to the area.
Thanks for all the hard work to everyone involved - in a challenging place πŸŒ¦πŸ’¦ Special thanks to Nan Morris of the NTS Mountain Path Team for all her work and guidance and to volunteer Dave Hector for helping to organise the food for the week.
And to volunteer Barry Milton for helping to get all our tools and supplies in πŸ˜‡

There are so many reasons to love Kintail πŸ₯°

This beautiful stretch of West Highland landscape includes the historic site of the Battle of Glen Shiel (fought on 10 June 1719) and the Falls of Glomach (one of the highest waterfalls in Britain). This really is the perfect place to experience Scotland’s wild landscapes πŸ‘Œ

In this short film, our team at Kintail describe some of the things that make this place so special – from the iconic ridge of the Five Sisters to kayaking with porpoises.

We were sent these photos by Mike Connell, who commanded a group of soldiers from 32 Field Squadron Royal Engineers (stationed in Ripon) in building the Morvich Adventure Training Hostel in 1969.
(This is the Kintail Outdoor Centre today.)
Thank you to Mike for sending these photos and for all the work of the Royal Engineers in the construction.

Happy World Ranger Day! Have a look at some of the work our brilliant rangers do to protect the special places in our care – from islands and mountaintops, seabird cliffs and coastlines, gardens to castle estates, our rangers play a hugely important role in conserving landscapes and habitats across Scotland.
Look out for an appearance by our our very own Volunteer Barry 😍
