We were sent these photos by Mike Connell, who commanded a group of soldiers from 32 Field Squadron Royal Engineers (stationed in Ripon) in building the Morvich Adventure Training Hostel in 1969.
(This is the Kintail Outdoor Centre today.)
Thank you to Mike for sending these photos and for all the work of the Royal Engineers in the construction.

Happy World Ranger Day! Have a look at some of the work our brilliant rangers do to protect the special places in our care – from islands and mountaintops, seabird cliffs and coastlines, gardens to castle estates, our rangers play a hugely important role in conserving landscapes and habitats across Scotland.
Look out for an appearance by our our very own Volunteer Barry 😍

On our walk out to remove a patch of spreading Rhododendron ponticum yesterday we found this tawny owl fledgling sitting in grass on the track edge. We were worried that a dog being walked might get it there so volunteer Barry moved it away from the path and left it perched on a nearby tree branch πŸ˜‡

Massive thanks to volunteer Barry who joined me for two big days last week: we repaired a section of deer fence protecting a regenerating native woodland in Gleann Gniomhaidh that had been flattened by a winter landslide. Sad to see quite a lot of damage to trees by hungry deer but hopefully our repair will keep them out now and allow the trees more time. Midges, clegs and carrying all the tools and materials uphill had us both exhausted πŸ₯΅πŸ₯΅ But many thanks to Bob, an American guest at the Glen Affric Youth Hostel, who donated Β£300 to the National Trust for Scotland when he heard what we were doing πŸ™

A few photos from our recent working holiday at Kintail - participants helped us with our work for 3 days and then enjoyed 3 days of sea kayaking. Work included maintenance of the Falls of Glomach and Beinn Fhada footpaths, bracken removal from the site of the Battle of Glen Shiel and Sitka spruce removal. Thanks to everyone for all their work and thanks to Susan and Johnny for use of their photos πŸ™‚πŸ‘

Many thanks for all the hard work by volunteers on our footpath maintenance week at Kintail recently. We did essential maintenance on several paths - including to the Falls of Glomach over Inverinate Estate, the Beinn Fhada Munro path and the alternative path to the Falls of Glomach from Glen Elchaig. We also added over 10m of new stone pitching on a section that regularly floods near Innis a' Chrotha.
Special thanks to Nan from the NTS Mountain Path Team for all her expertise, guidance and hard work during the week and to the National Trust for Scotland Highland Members' Centre who recently donated us new tools πŸ‘πŸ‘

Leaflets are printed!
What a journey it’s been to get them designed and ready, but needs must. Hopefully, they’ll help keep both the feral goats and drivers safe. Huge thanks to the Kintail & West Affric NTS for their support!
