A reminder that our scheduled film for this Saturday, The Ballad of Wallis Island, has been postponed until Saturday 13 December. This is due to unexpected licensing restrictions by the films distributors. We apologise but are sure it will be worth the wait!

We will however be screening WILD COAST WARRIORS, on behalf of Tunbridge Wells film producer, Gary Janks on Sunday 19 October at 7.30pm in the War Memorial Hall, Lamberhurst.

For more details of Wild Coast Warriors and our regular programme of films, head to lamberhurstcinema.org

As a community cinema, we sometimes like to put the emphasis on ‘Community’. In the past this has taken the form of screening films with strong local interest - such as ‘Klokkenluider’ (featuring a lot of recognisable local locations - including our very own favourite coffee spot, Teise & Coffee!) and ‘The Presence of Snowgood’ (drawing on the talents of a local writer and a whole clutch of actors known to everyone in the area!)

On another occasion we screened ‘Wilding’ - the story of the rewilding of the Knepp estate in Sussex - with so much relevance to the major projects being undertaken locally by Kent Wildlife Trust.

This week we are delighted to be providing projection on behalf of Tunbridge Wells film producer , Gary Janks, of a film about a community, set far away but with a relevance to all of us with concerns about the environment and the future of our planet.

The film tells the story of an indigenous community on South Africa’s Wild Coast who, threatened with the desecration of their local environment by the thirst for oil and gas took on a multi-national oil company in the courts - and won!

“…an immersive, entertaining and deeply captivating documentary that masterfully captures the many complex power dynamics at intersection of environmental and social justice. “

This is a film not to be missed… Will make everyone think, every time they fill their tank with petrol.

OUR OCTOBER FILM - THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND - POSTPONED

We spotted this brilliant British comedy almost immediately on its release and scheduled it early into our programme for the 2025/26 season.

It seems the success of this film has taken its distributors by surprise as they have unexpectedly extended its release in main-steam cinemas into November, before it runs to wider release and we are able to show it.

Lamberhurst Cinema has been 'caught out' on this one, whilst also being delighted that we spotted a hit so early!

We will now screen The Ballad of Wallis Island on Saturday 13th December, which is sure to bring some cheer to a dark winter's evening.

All is not lost for October, as we are screening on behalf of the film’s makers, an incisive documentary, Wild Coast Warriors. It tells the story of an indigenous community in South Africa, taking on and beating a global oil company hell-bent on destroying their precious environment in the relentless search for oil and gas.

Wild Coast Warriors is screening at The War Memorial Hall on Sunday 19 October at 7.30pm. For more information about the film and tickets visit our website, Lamberhurstcinema.org.
