Hmmmmm not what I expected but I love the ivory shade. These were the centres of the red Dahlias after the petals had been removed.

Loving the lemon shade from his dahlia. The one below had alum added to the dye bath.

Really happy with these results as after reading numerous books and posts it seemed you only ever get yellow and orange from Dahlias no matter what colour! The sample on the right had a little alum added to the pot and definitely looks pink to me. 😊

What better to do on a rainy day than more Dahlia dyeing 😊 I will share results once completed!

Had a lovely chill day and managed to get to some of my fabrics. Needed to create and made some hand stitched soft sculptured botanicals. Love the calming rhythm of slow stitching. 😊

Just thought I would update you as I’ve not posted for a while.
I started to pack up my studio in summer as I’m in the process of relocating to Wales.
Things are a lot slower than anticipated as should of moved beginning of October.
So I’m now in limbo, bored, fed up with waiting and frustrated 😏
Can’t wait till I can unpack all my boxes and have space to design, create and make again.
Till then I’m trying to keep boredom at bay with a alpaca fleece 😊.

‘Hello’ and welcome to Mossarti Hand Felted Hares

Mossarti started to evolve in 2013 after I had attended a City and Guilds course in Feltmaking at Westhope College in Shropshire. I then went on to take another City and Guilds course in creative textiles at Derby College where I was awarded a double distinction in July 2018.

I adore making these hares, I love that each one is different.I get excited with each new hare from initially deciding what colour they will be and choosing the fibres to create them. I work mainly with Merino and Alpaca wool, Teesdale wool locks, Mulberry silk and Habotai silk to create a luxurious, beautiful soft and tactile hare. Each hare takes between one and two days to complete and prices start at £158.00.

I lay the chosen fibres and wet felt them to create a flat piece of felt from which I later make arms and legs. This is the most physical part of the process as each piece needs rolling over 1000 times! Once air dried, I cut the arms and legs from the flat piece of felt which are then sewn and then filled with pure wool to create soft sculptured arms and legs.

The head and body are made using a different felting technique and this is made in 3D. Once dried this is filled with wool and facial features added by hand stitching. All the pieces are then sewn together with silk thread using hand stitch and my own designer buttons to achieve jointed arms and legs. I enjoy adding extra embellishments of beads or diamanté, smiling as they gradually come to life.
