As many of you will be aware, they is a potential food crisis looming due to the price of CO2 gas involved in the slaughter of animals and the packaging of meat. This will affect mainly the supermarkets.
If this isn’t our best opportunity to focus on a more regenerative approach to meat consumption, then I don’t know what is.
We are looking at a potential scenario whereby supermarkets simply do not have any meat on the shelves and people are beginning to panic. But to me, this is a huge opportunity - and that opportunity is supporting your local butcher, or sustainable meat producer.
A large % of meat in the supermarket is mass produced, fed largely a soy diet, lower standards of animal welfare and generally a poorer quality product.
I’m not about to suggest that eating meat from your butcher is the answer to global warming, but if we all reduced the amount of mass produced rubbish we buy in the supermarket, eat less meat, and focus on buying good quality, locally reared meat, it’s certainly going to help.
So, this is my call all meat eaters! Buy local, support small businesses, and see if you can make a switch to a more sustainable way of eating meat.
At The Cornish Biltong Co, we source all of our meat from local producers, and our Biltong is made using 100% renewable energy.
Invest wisely!
