Launceston in Bloom’s flower festival ‘The Joy of Flowers’ gets underway today in St Mary Magdalene Church 💐

We popped in yesterday while everyone was setting up to have a little nose around, and the displays are looking amazing! It’s so lovely to see so many different groups from the community coming together to get creative and show some love for their town.

The festival runs until 20th July. Free entry!

Hi Lanson, we have been asked to share this poster to help bring this much-loved pet home.

Please keep an eye out for this beautiful boy, and spread the word to any friends or family who are in the Egloskerry and Camelford areas too!

The owners say the following:

He went missing on Saturday June 14th and was last seen near King's Acre Camelford on that day. We had moved from near Egloskerry, Launceston 2 days before.

He was wearing a quick release colourful ruffle colour with 3 bells but may not be wearing it anymore.

He is male, neutered, chipped and reported as missing.

Long hair, tufts from his ears and has a mane.

Quite a wild cat and weary of strangers.

There is a possibility he might be trying to make his way back to Egloskerry, 13 miles away and is most likely hanging out near farms, more rural properties anywhere between Camelford and there, but we could be wrong.

Tonight, Cornish author Jodie Matthews returns to her roots with a talk about her debut novel, Meet Me at the Surface, hosted by Emily at Black Cat Books.

‘Meet Me at the Surface is a Cornish folk horror novel that follows the story of Merryn, a young woman who grows up on Bodmin Moor in an isolated farmhouse with her mother and aunt. She escapes to the city for university, only to find herself called back home for the memorial service of her ex-girlfriend.

‘When she returns to the farmhouse, things seem to have become strange. No one can tell her when the memorial service is, people are hunting for something on the moors, and she finds a book of folk tales that are eerily similar to what’s going on.’

We caught up with Jodie ahead of the event this evening to find out more about her love for Cornish folklore, and how her own upbringing and connection to nature helped her pen her first novel…
