It's happening! The Leatherhead Community Hub Summer BBQ is heating up!

The team is on hand to take requests and keep the bad weather away! Come down for coffee, cake and BBQ. The raffle and tombola prize tables are heaving. Everyone is getting their face painted. We've had an amazing chat with The Hive and their handmade, upcycled wares for sale. Even our community Policeman has come to join the party 🥳

What a week it has been with our work experience legends!

We have just wrapped up an incredible five days with our 2025 work experience students here at Surrey Hills Community Radio. From day one this group jumped headfirst into the world of radio with a passion for radio and music, lots of creativity, good vibes, and strong support for one another.

Not only did they learn the ins and outs of the technical side of things in the studio, planned a playlist and joined our presenter Elaine on her show, but by the end of the week they had been on air live not just once... but twice! Starting off with their 80’s shows, which began as just a demonstration task, but we ended up loving their playlists so much, we couldn’t move on without making them into shows. So, they took on the last-minute task and as dual acts improvised two incredible shows.

Then, as a fabulous end to the week, they went on air with their individual shows they had been planning all week, and we had four fantastic radio naturals present fun-filled shows. They all came out of the studio beaming, not only proud of themselves but proud of one another as well.

Another very exciting part from the week was when we challenged them to create audio adverts for local community events. They wrote their own scripts from scratch (NO AI!), voiced them and finally edited the audio, adding some fun sound effects like dogs barking and glasses clinking. It was amazing to see their creativity.

We always say radio is about connecting people and this work experience crew reminded us how exciting it is to see new voices finding their radio spark. The studio was filled to the brim with passion, a variety of musical tastes, funny stories and Lidl bakery treats!! To anyone out there wondering what it’s like behind the scenes at a radio station … maybe its time to find out... Safe to say we’ve got a few future radio presenters in the making.

Today marks the final day of Myeloma Awareness Week 2025 🎗️

Myeloma is a life-changing blood cancer, but all too often, it’s missed or misdiagnosed.

On 'In Conversation', we were joined by Gary Festa, who spoke openly and honestly about life, loss, and laughter—even in the face of cancer. In a respectful yet light-hearted chat, Gary shared his journey of living with cancer and raising nearly £20,000 in memory of his late wife for The Royal Marsden Hospital, where he also received treatment.

His goal was to raise £10,000, but with honesty, humour, and huge heart, he’s nearly doubled that.

It's been three weeks since ShyneFest celebrated 10 years of music and community. As part of their celebrations they invited us to broadcast live from the festival giving us one the most ultimate tech challenges a radio station can have 🎪📻

🥁 Drum roll... Introducing to the stage... our tech team! The OG Team of Dan and Phil expertly joined by new techie Malik.

One hundred percent, we could not have run the day without our quick-thinking, problem solving, calm-in-a-crisis tech team. In part six of our ShyneFest broadcast, to round the day up and say thank you to the team we invited them on air to give us all an insight into their day - the prep, the set up, the highlights. Poppy also grilled them on a set of questions that had been carefully prepared for a band that didn't turn up to their interview slot... Their answers had us laughing out loud!

🎸 The Mustard – after catching some of their set on stage, we found out how The Mustard band came to be and how they make their alternative indie sound
🎤 Bandit Sound – before their set on the second stage, we talked about pot noodles, crisps and cheese, plus also quizzed them about their unique mix of sounds in their music (amazing influences!)

Weird moment seeing the Surrey Hills Community Radio logo up in lights on the massive Main Stage at ShyneFest last week. Totally unexpected and gave the team a huge buzz! Thanks for having us 😍

We had a total blast broadcasting from this super-friendly family festival. We met friends old and new, discovered new music, and had a chat with the punters to find out why this festival is so loved.
